Position Title: Video Monitoring Technician
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Clinical Nurse Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
Video Monitoring Technician provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients. First line of action to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at-risk behaviors. Alerts and calls nursing staff through communication devices or STAT Alert alarms, if the patient requires immediate assistance. Supports REHAB’s effort in establishing a safe environment by performing temperature screenings for all staff, patients, and other visitors prior to entering the facility.

VIDEO MONITORING
  • Demonstrates understanding and proficiency use of the Video Monitoring software.
  • Maintains visual observation at all times.
  • When necessary, communicates clear explanations and safety precautions to patients being video monitored via handset/digital 2-way audio device/STAT Alarm but does not consult or provide opinions.
  • Documents number of patient intervention incidents requiring redirection for safety. Ensures documentation is complete while maintaining visual observation of the monitor screen.
  • Immediately notifies the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
  • Follows, demonstrates and provides appropriate communication and instructions to patients being video monitored based on the training provided.
  • Provides transfer and hand-off of pertinent information about patient’s behaviors at the start and upon completion of shift assignment.
  • Seeks immediate help or advice from nursing staff when a patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting process of patient safety issues.
  • Seeks assistance with the removal of any potential safety hazard(s) from the patient’s room and reports findings to a licensed nurse.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and conduct, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
  • Observes patients with no outside distractions (only answering calls to the monitor station, etc.)
  • Keep the headset and audio on at all times..
  • Continuously attends to the monitor(s), calling back up first, if needing to step away.
  • No food, drink, and cell phone use in patient care areas.
  • Keeps the workplace clean and tidy.
  • Maintains the required documentation.
  • Demonstrates behaviors in line with Service Excellence.

  • Incorporates professionalism and demonstrates customer service in the daily delivery of care through positive communication and positive interpersonal relationship with internal and external customers.

  • Completes assignments timely and within scheduled work hours, while maintaining productivity.
  • Accountable to start and end work based on designated work shift. Demonstrates flexibility with work schedule as needed. When appropriate, obtains approval from the supervisor for changes and/or variances.

  • Attends and participates in inservices, conferences and educational programs to assure continued professional growth and maintains unit education record.
  • Complies with and updates yearly skills review per policy and timely completes requirements needed to maintain position and/or employment at REHAB.
  • Demonstrates competence with technical skill review of procedures, treatments, and equipment usage.
  • Keeps self updated on hospital and unit announcements, including updated policies and procedures.
  • Offers recommendations to improve processes and/or operations of the department.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Interacts openly and professionally while supporting management directives and strategic objectives.
  • Supports and promotes REHAB’s mission, as a positive role model, demonstrating a proactive approach to situations, and practicing REHAB values.
  • Understands the diversity of patient’s needs, and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/assistance appropriate to the patient.

  • Assures that all department and hospital policies are followed.
  • Promotes and adheres to REHAB’s Compliance Program.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements solutions to issues.
  • Participates in REHAB initiatives to improve processes and communication
  • Establishes and keeps current policies and procedures.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
The population served include individuals affected by stroke, orthopedic related conditions, brain and spinal cord injury, amputation, major multiple trauma, and other neurological and medical conditions. REHAB’s patients range from pre-teen to geriatric age ranges.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Skills/Experience:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in computer applications (e.g. Microsoft office and/or Google)
  • Ability to learn new software.
  • Maintain a viable work schedule to meet the department needs (e.g. evening, nights, weekends, and holidays)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Licensure:
  • Current BLS certification
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Skills/Experience:
  • Previous video monitoring, surveillance and/or patient care experience.
  • Familiarity with standard hospital procedures.
  • Proficient in computer applications (e.g. Microsoft office and/or Google).
  • Ability to learn new software.

Office supplies and equipment, including telephone, computer and multifunction devices (MFDs). Google’s G Suite, report writer and database software.
