What you will do

As a member of the electrical systems group, the Vehicle EE Systems Functional Safety Engineer is responsible for leading the functional safety efforts to assure compliance to ISO-26262 from the component up through the full vehicle level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all actions/tasks related to functional safety according ISO 26262, in all relevant phases of the project
  • Lead the development of the item definition, ‘hazard analysis and risk assessment’, and functional safety concept
  • Drive activities to establish functional safety requirements for system components and ECU software and hardware work products
  • Establish the ‘functional safety culture’ at Lordstown Motors and integrate the safety processes into the engineering development process
  • Own the technical concept and architectural approaches for functional safety in for future features and/or models
  • Support system and sub-system design with respect to System FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis
  • Work with Tier-1 suppliers to assure component level adherence and traceability to the functional safety concept
  • Develop test cases for vehicle and system evaluation for bench and HIL testing.
  • Coordinate cross functional system reviews to identify and resolve unpredicted issues.
  • Develop approach to establish balance between functional safety objectives of high risk customer facing outcomes and protecting hardware
  • Cascade safety requirements to the system, sub-system, and component level
  • Provide guidance on the technical correctness according to ISO-26262
  • Establish and align ASIL classifications for each system, sub-system, and component
  • Oversee the functional safety process through the complete lifecycle of the vehicle
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 7 years functional safety development
  • BS Electrical, Mechanical, or Control systems; master’s degree preferred
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of ECU control systems, vehicle networking, and ECU hardware development
  • Problem solving experience where issues are unusual and difficult
  • Previous OEM and Tier-1 automotive functional safety experience
  • Complete knowledge and understanding of ISO-26262
  • Experience with requirements documentation systems such as Doors and Polarion

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Hybrid or Electric Vehicle experience
  • Familiarity with the light to mid-duty truck segment
  • Experience using functional safety development tools
