The Upper Leather Cutter will cut leather parts as required for boot uppers from whole or half tanned animal hides placed on a cutting block, using shaped cutting dies positioned on the hide by hand and forced through the hide by the aid of a hydraulic press, separating the cut part from the rest of the hide. Skill must be developed in quickly evaluating the quality of the hide, locating the imperfections, and in positioning the cutting die to obtain the highest yield of usable leather from each hide.

Coaching, training, and disciplining for this position are provided and coordinated by the Cutting Department Team Coach.

Skills:

1. Ability to understand, remember, and follow both oral and written instructions and quality specifications.

2. Must be able to functionally read, write, and count accurately and repetitively.

3. Ability and reliability to work independently without close supervision

4. Must be able to push heavy racks of boots between workstations.

5. Ability to concentrate and give continuous close attention to job.

6. Must to able to follow directions

7. Ability to work as a part of a team.
