Position Summary:


To provide diagnostic medical sonography imaging to patients in a clinical setting alongside medical providers and students. Emphasis will be given to OB/GYN and maternal health imaging in Health West clinics throughout Southeastern Idaho. This position will also work with the ISU Family Medical Residency Program to help train medical residents in basic sonography imaging and may include some teaching responsibilities in the ISU Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Follow established sonogram and requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.

DUTIES:

  • OB/GYN and general sonographic imaging of patients

  • Basic sonography training of Family Medical Residents in clinical and didactic settings

  • Teaching diagnostic medical sonography students in clinical and didactic settings

  • Coordinating clinical rotations and interprofessional activities

  • Escort patients to dressing and exam rooms, provide verbal and/or written instructions and assist patients in positioning body parts to be sonographed.

  • Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure patient care, safety and comfort during sonogram.

  • Perform sonogram as ordered by a provider and following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.

  • Obtain diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient and provide the diagnostic sonographic exam to the provider for interpretation.

  • Ensure sonographic equipment remains in working order. Report equipment malfunctions to Clinic Administrator or other supervisor.

  • Perform related administrative duties including completing necessary forms.

  • Retrieve sonographic orders from and input related data into the electronic medical record.

  • Maintain adequate sonographic supplies.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Performance Criteria:

1. Provides high-quality medical care to patients as evaluated by medical staff peers and the Chief Medical Officer.

2. Communicates effectively particularly if supervising healthcare students.

3. Practices according to HW Standards of Practice including being punctual and reliable about showing up at scheduled times.

4. Maintains accurate and complete medical charts in a timely fashion including appropriate documentation of quality clinical measure.

5. Provides appropriate billing and coding information on chart audits as per CPT requirements.

6. Works well with clinic staff and other HW personnel.

7. Relates effectively with patients according to patient satisfaction surveys.

8. Completes diagnosis coding on all medical encounters.

9. Meets established productivity performance standards for clinicians.

10. Maintains confidentiality and follows HIPAA policies at all times.

  • Bachelor's degree in Radiographic Science or related field

  • ARRT RT(R) credentials

  • ARDMS (or ARRT) Sonography Principles and Instrumentation certification

  • ARDMS (or ARRT) OB/GYN specialty examination certification

  • Three-Five years of full-time professional clinical experience as a sonographer

  • Current BLS certification

  • A friendly and professional demeanor is required when explaining procedures and processes to patients

  • Communication Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Computer Skills Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record.

  • Confidentiality Maintain patient, team member and employer confidentiality. Comply with all HIPAA regulations.

  • Customer Service Oriented Friendly, cheerful and helpful to patients and others. Ability to meet patients and others needs while following office policies and procedures.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Radiographic Science or related field

  • Multiple ARDMS (or ARRT) specialty examination certifications

  • Prior clinical supervision and teaching experience

  • Prior didactic teaching experience

  • Experience working in a community health center

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
