The Trial Court Clerk I is responsible for executing all essential tasks involved in processing all case types that come before the Osage Nation Trial Court from initial filing through final disposition, Caseload for this position includes cases that are both civil and criminal in nature. This position performs a variety of tasks requiring extensive knowledge of statutes, court rules and court operations and procedures.

This position designation reflects the general concept and intent of the role of the Trial Court Clerk I and should not be construed as a detailed statement of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position. The Trial Court Clerk I position is distinguished by the application of Osage Nation civil and criminal laws and procedures pertaining to all Trial Court case types as well as responsibility for warrant and incarceration status of defendants. Daily operations may require equal performance of duties related to civil cases and duties related to criminal cases or the performance of one set of duties may dominate as determined by Trial Court and Judicial Branch activity.

  • Associates Degree or higher or a certificate from a court clerk or paralegal program required
  • Prior Court Clerk and/or Legal Assistant experience highly preferred
  • Three (3) years relevant office experience is required
  • Experience serving emotionally-charged customers in a potentially high conflict setting is required
  • Use of interpersonal skills including collaboration, communications, conflict management, diplomacy, flexibility, and problem solving is required
  • A combination of relevant education and required experience will also be considered, regardless of whether such education resulted in a degree
  • Knowledge of Osage government, language and culture is preferred
  • The successful employee will be expected to become familiar with Osage government and history
  • Recordkeeping (including electronic recordkeeping); ability to correctly apply payments received according to case type process; ability to properly document payment and case activity; must demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to find, read, understand and apply rules and procedures of court operations and Osage Nation law; ability to apply correct procedure to case type at hand
  • Must be able to effectively communicate information and instructions through short written correspondence via email and fax
  • Must be able to effectively communicate information and instructions via one-on-one telephone conversations or in-person interaction with court customers regarding both civil and criminal case and payment processes
  • Ability to understand and interpret defendant sentencing documents in order to determine correct deferred sentence dates, incarceration duration dates and release dates
  • Must possess strong customer service skills and the ability to interact effectively with an emotionally-charged customer population
  • Must be able to solve problems involving multiple variables in situations
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work independently
  • Must be able to speak and write in a professional manner using appropriate grammar, spelling, and terminology applicable to the subject matter
