Summary of Duties:

Serve as a skilled Human Resource Consultant serving assigned areas. Responsible for providing professional human resource generalist duties and administrative direction and counsel to management and employees on human resource issues. Plans and carries out work independently and with minimum supervision, utilizing knowledge of laws, policies, and regulations. Responsible for prioritizing and managing issues within designated area of responsibility. Provide guidance and consultation in any, some or all of the following: recruitment, classification, compensation, corrective and disciplinary action, training and development, interpretation and application of laws, rules, policies and procedures, appeals, grievances or unemployment hearings, performance management, program or policy development, performance reviews, career counseling, organizational analysis or development, employee recognition or other functions relating to Human Resource management.

Required Qualifications - HRC 1:
  • The minimum requirements for this position are a Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or related area AND three (3) years of professional experience in human resource functions in a formal human resource setting. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Required Qualifications - HRC 2:
  • The minimum requirements for this position are a Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or related area AND four (4) years of professional experience in human resource functions in a formal human resource setting. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Requirements - Both:
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with large groups and individuals at all work levels.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and desire to promote diversity.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and software applications.
  • A record showing commitment to customer service and the application of appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view is required.
  • Ability to travel to the WSU Pullman campus and university locations throughout the state of Washington is required (approximately 1-3 times per year)



Preferred Qualifications - Both:
  • Experience in any of the following areas: recruitment, classification, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, training and development, Reasonable Accommodation, Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully prepare and present policy interpretations and investigation findings and conclusions.
  • Interpreting or applying labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and contracts.
  • Professional certification from a recognized human resource/personnel association.
  • Human Resource experience in a higher education setting.

Monthly Salary:

Human Resource Consultant 1:

$4,869.40 - $6,086.74

Human Resource Consultant 2:

$5,337.47 - $6,756.28

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
