Minimum Qualifications

Continuous employment, permanent status and two (2) years of acceptable on-the-job performance as a Waste Attendant 1, Waste Attendant 2 or Waste Collector and successful completion of the Department's Trash Truck Driver 2 Training Program is required. Must possess a valid CDL/Class A. OR, Continuous employment, permanent status and two (2) years of acceptable on-the-job performance as a Trash Truck Driver 1 or Waste Truck Driver. Must possess a valid CDL/Class A. OR, Two (2) years of experience operating medium or heavy-duty automotive equipment, such as tractor-trailers, automated or manual garbage trucks, large dump trucks, passenger buses or similar equipment is required. Must possess a valid CDL/Class A license.

Miami-Dade County's Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Trash Truck Driver 2. Trash Truck Driver 2s operate a tractor-trailer. DSWM offers a comprehensive on-the-job training program and future promotional opportunities. New Hires are eligible for health insurance coverage immediately upon hire.

The Department provides trash collection and recycling services to more than 350,000 households in unincorporated Miami-Dade County and the following nine municipalities: Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Opa-locka, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Sweetwater, and Sunny Isles Beach. As a Trash Truck Driver 2, you will play an important role in providing exceptional collection and disposal services that protect, preserve and improve our environment and the quality of life in our community.

Qualified applicants will be subject to a screening process including, but not limited to:

a) Verification of the current status of commercial driver license.

b) Review of the entire driving record (State of Florida and current/previous employers).

c) Structured interviews, background checks, employment verification, to include attendance and disciplinary records, and a performance assessment.

Vacancies may occur at any of the following locations: Northeast Transfer, Central Transfer, West Transfer, Resource Recovery Transfer, South Dade Transfer, or 3B Trash (Kendall). The candidate must be able to work holidays, various shifts and /or rotating schedules and at various locations as assigned. Shift assignments and days off will be based on departmental needs.

Trash Truck Driver 2s are considered essential employees and are required to work in emergency situations such as Hurricanes, Tropical Storms and other emergencies.

NEW HIRES: Qualified applicants who successfully pass the pre-employment screening process, will earn a base salary of $1,579.83 biweekly plus $70 biweekly premium pay and an additional 5% Waste Collections Disposal pay supplement, annual merit increases based on overall Performance Evaluation of satisfactory or better, and an annual uniform maintenance allowance. Employees who are assigned to the night shift will receive a Night Differential pay supplement.

DSWM WASTE BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEES TRASH TRUCK DRIVER 2 TRAINING PROCESS:

A limited number of training slots will be available for eligible DSWM Waste Bargaining Unit employees.

1. Eligible applicants are those employees with continuous employment, permanent status, two (2) years of acceptable on-the-job performance in the classifications of Waste Attendant 1, Waste Attendant 2, Waste Collector, Trash Truck Driver 1 or Waste Truck Driver on or before December 25, 2022, and the successful completion of the Department’s Trash Truck Driver 2 Training Program. Possession of a valid CDL Class A License is required.

2. All applicants eligible for the program will be evaluated and ranked on a general formalized performance ranking system including seniority, administrative action (disciplinary action), and performance reports for the 24 months prior to December 25, 2022.

3. Applicants offered a training to promotion opportunity who decline the opportunity will be noted on the list and will need to wait until there is a new application window.

4. Employees placed on the training/promotion list will be subject to continued review of personnel files, driver license records and status, leave and attendance history and any adverse actions. This review may result in disapproval for this training/promotional opportunity.

5. Applicants will be selected for training in accordance with the Departments Revised Selection Criteria of July 8, 2016.

6. Training/Promotional lists will be established for a period of one (1) year or until exhausted, whichever occurs first. However, the Lists may be extended by the Human Resources Department for an additional two (2) years, providing for a new establishment date for the List, for each year extended.

7. Employees selected for training shall receive a one (1) pay step increase from their present rate for the periods of training, to include classroom and On the Job Training. At the completion of training, a performance assessment will be given wherein employees must demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in equipment operation.

8. In the event an employee fails to accept a promotional opportunity offer after successfully completing a training program, the department, at its discretion, may deduct the employees one (1) pay step increase from his/her present rate of pay as an overpayment for the training periods.
