Transporter Job at Kaiser Permanente
Under direct supervision, assures safe, courteous and timely transport of patients, equipment, supplies, specimens and any other items as directed by supervisor; on occasion performs cleaning duties as requested.
Essential Responsibilities:
Transports patient as directed by nursing staff via most appropriate way (e.g., wheelchair, stretcher); transports patients to include but not limited to admissions, discharges, transfers, ancillary departments and physician offices).
Greets patient; introduces self; checks identification band; protects patient by using bathrobe, sheet or blanket for cover as required.
Utilizes safety measures by applying equipment brakes, straps and/or side rails as required; practices personal safety habits or proper body mechanics to avoid personal injury.
Uses extra care when transporting patient with IV and foley catheter; questions nurse on unit if further instructions needed and seeks out when assistance is required; reports immediately to unit nurse if malfunction of any equipment suspected or any unusual occurrences related to patient being transported.
Follows proper procedure when transporting isolation cases; properly disinfects equipment with appropriate cleaning solution after transporting same.
Assists nursing staff with ambulating, moving, turning, positioning, assisting in and out of chair/bed patients who require additional help.
Returns wheelchairs and gurneys to appropriate location as designated by supervisor.
Inspects all equipment used for safety; refrains from using equipment not in proper working order; informs supervisor of such equipment for appropriate action.
Assures confidentiality of all patient work-related information.
Picks-up, delivers, or returns records, supplies, linen, equipment, x-rays, and specimens from areas within Medical Center and its Annex (these may involve scheduled or non-scheduled stat requests and transport of supply and linen exchange carts).
Performs various cleaning functions as specified by supervisor (include but not limited to sanitizing and maintaining wheelchairs, gurneys and other transport equipment, furniture, fixtures and overall physical environment).
Follows up on all messages, assignments and answers pages and beeper on timely basis; if occupied at time, asks someone to notify caller.

High school diploma.
License, Certification, Registration
Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.
Additional Requirements:
Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, conflict resolution, decision making, customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, and time management.
