- Assist higher level employees with revisions to the processes, review and implementation of software platform(s) needed for MESU activities
- Assist higher level employees in maintaining laboratory accreditation and monitoring compliance, analyzing producer-level test results, and interpreting/recommending revisions to contract specifications
- Assist higher level employees in administering task-order consultant contract for seasonal and specialized inspections

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
WORKING LEAD: As assigned by the supervisor: may distribute, prioritize, oversee and review work of a field or central laboratory staff; may provide staff training and assistance; may conduct or assist in conducting performance evaluations; may act as liaison with operating units, agencies, consultant staffs or other outside officials such as construction personnel, vendors and producers regarding laboratory policies and procedures and/or problems with materials; may recommend policies and standards; may prepare reports and correspondence of tests and analyses including graphs; performs related duties as required.
ADVANCED WORKING LEVEL: Prepares recommendations regarding suitability of materials used in construction or maintenance of transportation systems; establishes and maintains procedures; performs assurance sampling and material inspections and testing; assists in directing research on new materials or modification of old materials; may make recommendations concerning product certification in meeting specific contract specifications; may witness welder certification tests; may assist in the purchasing of instrumentation; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience leading a team of technicians to manage testing material samples, related documentation and certifications
- Experience working cooperatively to assist various areas of the organization and consultants related to material specifications and testing
- Experience managing varying workload to maintain expected production levels
- Experience with standards for the testing or inspection of construction of materials such as those developed and maintained by the American Welding Society
- Experience with standards for the testing or inspection of construction of materials such as those developed and maintained by the Association of Materials Protection and Performance (formerly NACE/SSPC)
- Experience with standards for the testing or inspection of construction of materials such as those developed and maintained by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
- Experience reviewing and recommending actions regarding technical documents and correspondence related to fabrication inspection, such as for precast concrete and structural steel
- Experience with managing personal services or task order contracts
- Experience using enterprise applications such as Microsoft Office 365 and a computer network for file storage and retrieval
- Experience providing guidance to coworkers and other CTDOT representatives related to materials and testing
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
2. STRUCTURAL STEEL FABRICATION SECTION: Incumbents in this class may be required to possess a Certified Welding Inspector Certificate and/or Nondestructive Testing Level III Certification in accordance with procedures set forth by the American Welding Society for nondestructive testing.
3. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
4. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
