Compensation:

  • In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.


Role Summary

  • Participates in the implementation at the workshop/programmatic level of goals, strategic initiatives, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Communicates critical information with department management.
  • Works with department staff and supervisor to make recommendations and implement the annual program budget at the workshop/program level, and ensures good stewardship of funds.
  • Engages in professional development as directed, resulting in continual growth, development and improvement of services. Fosters an atmosphere of collaboration, innovation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Implements policies and operating practices. Ensure that all policies including those related to client/student rights are followed at all times. Provide input on policy matters.
  • Involved in planning and implementing program activities to support program objectives and goals.
  • Manages the work of program personnel in implementing activities to support student outcomes, ensuring the communication of narrative, anecdotal, and/or qualitative data related to program outcomes and measures.
  • Orients students to the dormitory and other areas of programming available to them, including the community.
  • Provides sighted assistance as needed to ensure safety in travel and information about the environment as necessary.
  • Regularly familiarizes students with fire alarms, safety devices, exits and building evacuation procedures.
  • Follows all emergency procedures.
  • Maintains familiarity with students' emergency medical information.
  • Report any incidents/accidents according to incident reporting procedures and protocols, within designated timelines as outlined in the reporting procedures. Ensure staff is knowledgeable of and adhere to the reporting procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent client information.
  • Perform other duties as may become necessary or as directed by supervisor.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree or two year college equivalent preferred.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in the field of education and/or rehabilitation providing services to youth and/or the visually impaired preferred.
  • Familiarity with standards and legal and regulatory aspects of vocational and educational services for the blind and visually impaired and/or other vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of appropriate service delivery standards and practices and the ability to implement them administratively and programmatically.
  • Proven ability as a professional in the field.
