Located in the heart of North Carolina’s Piedmont, Rowan County is attractively and conveniently nestled between the state’s largest city and its Capitol. The County is currently accepting applications for the position of Transit Safety and Training Officer. This position assists the Transit Operations Manager with the daily operations of the Rowan Transit System to ensure Federal and State regulations and grant requirements are met; writes and updates Safety and Maintenance plans; implements the System Safety Program Plan; develops general safety procedures; ensures that drivers meet and comply with all federal, state and local health and safety regulations, including CDL requirements; maintains all required training documentation for employees; oversees completion of safety related audits; participates in the investigation of accidents/injuries and completes reports; coordinates mandatory Drug and Alcohol testing as needed; receives calls, resolves, and maintains records of customer complaints or suggestions; conducts user surveys, and rides along with drivers to assess vehicle safety and cleanliness and the driver’s compliance with regulations and safety awareness.
Requires thorough knowledge and understanding of DOT (Department of Transportation), FTA (Federal Transit Administration), FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) rules and regulations; strong written and oral communication skills; thorough knowledge of vehicle operation, maintenance and repair needs, and safety procedures and techniques; ability to interpret program policies, rules, regulations, and procedures for organizational personnel and the general public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elderly and disabled clients, contracting agencies, fellow employees, and the public.
Requires High School Diploma and four years of safety and training work experience, preferably in public or private transportation. Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or related field and two years of related work experience preferred. A valid driver’s license is required. Degree/Coursework must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
Starting Salary $43,500 - $47,800 (commensurate with experience) and excellent benefits package available.
