Complete Transit Driver CDL training program in order to obtain Oregon CDL license and passenger endorsement.

Complying with all applicable Federal, state, and local laws in accordance with Transit policy and procedures.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

Operate an 8 to 35 passenger bus throughout Transit Driver CDL training program:
  • Safely operate all agency vehicles through traffic along assigned routes under various environmental conditions in accordance with traffic laws and departmental regulations.
  • Obtain knowledge for written DMV CDL test.
  • Practice physical skills in order to obtain DMV CDL drivers permit.
  • Train on pre and post trip inspections following regulations and guidelines designated by federal and state Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Utilize boarding or disembarking and with personal miscellaneous articles.
  • Utilize various installed bus features to load, unload and secure passenger and assistance equipment.
  • Learn how to operate two-way radio/phone for professional routine communications with dispatcher and other transit vehicles.
  • Ensure bus is fueled and supplied.
  • Complete departmental and County required trainings.

Specifics: A current DOT medical examiner's certificate prior to date of hire.

Driver’s License
Oregon Driver's License required
Specifics: Must possess a valid Oregon class B driver’s permit. Complete necessary trainings and test to obtain Class B driver’s license with a passenger endorsement following completion of course.

Skill or ability to:
  • Drive under all conditions of weather, roadways, and traffic.
  • Read and interpret maps.
  • Remain flexible in handling changes.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Relate effectively with people of varied age, physical condition, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy.
  • Undergo hands on fire extinguisher training and bus evacuation procedure training.

  • Utilize computers and other technology to communicate in written and verbal forms (e.g., word processing, texts, emails, spreadsheets, department-specific software).
  • Effectively relate well with others, including supervisors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the county. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and working to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work. Show up to work on time, and follows instructions, policies, and procedures. Meet productivity standards, deadlines, and work schedules.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Job Conditions: This is a safety sensitive position and requires pre-employment mandated by the Federal Transit Administration. Varied shifts; must be willing to work early morning and late evening shifts, weekdays, and weekends. Work is typically in a sitting position while driving a vehicle. Subject to adverse weather and traffic conditions, exhaust fumes, equipment noises, diesel, and gasoline fuel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Sit in a transit vehicle for extended periods throughout shifts.
  • Use arms, wrists, and hands to turn steering wheel of transit vehicle.
  • Use legs to apply pressure for braking of transit vehicle.
  • Adjust transit vehicle seats and mirrors to gain necessary line of vision to maneuver vehicle safely.
  • Maneuver approximately 600 pounds (passenger in a wheeled mobility device).
  • Maintain full and complete use of all limbs to operate vehicle controls.
  • Climb, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch and kneel to inspect vehicle or assist passengers.
  • Push pull or maneuver carts, strollers, wheeled mobility devices.
  • Lift approximately 50 pounds or more.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
