The Tooling Technician must support the die cast/trim and other services' effort to keep a continuous flow of high quality casting through the plant and to the customer by accurately providing and reporting the significant aspects of the visual, dimensional, and process information available.


What You'll Do:

  • Construct, alter, and repair a variety of dies, tools, fixtures, cavities and gauges meeting accuracy requirements, determining techniques and making decisions on metals, allowances, mechanism detail, fit and assembly to achieve maximum die equipment assembly, fixturing, and cavity life with minimum down time while under manufacturing time constraints and pressures.
  • Responsible for determining the most efficient method of completing repairs of dies, tools, fixtures, cavities and gauges.
  • Attention to detail in performing work, checking work, and documenting to assure quality.
  • Perform a wide variety of highly skilled repairs to die cast dies to close tolerances while under time constraints.
  • Inspect completed work to assure quality and fulfillment of all work requested.
  • Document work performed at all levels necessary (work orders, pass downs, etc.).
  • Construction of jigs, fixtures and replacement parts from complex prints following both written and verbal instructions.
  • Participates and leads continuous improvement efforts which includes but not limited to APQP, QOS, TOPS, APS, etc.
  • Troubleshooting dimensional issues; reads prints, layouts, and gauges to determine proper repairs.
  • Maintain die cast dies for back up and specs in order to provide high quality castings to our customers in production volumes.
  • Comprehend and communicate well in a very technical field.
  • Document work through completion of work orders.

Requirements:


What We Need from You:

  • Training and experience equal to journey-person level tool and die involving welding, dimensional troubleshooting and operation of machine tools and precision instruments
  • Ability to understand die cast dies and essential tooling
  • Must be able to use precision instruments and interpret complex blueprints typical of die cast dies and automotive industry
  • Required skill and education level may be attained through participation in technical classes as specified by Aludyne and through participation in an in-house program working with Toolroom Technicians and showing an increasing level of learning and expertise while on the job
  • Employees are expected to work and attend in person meetings as necessary
