Summary: With assistance, visualizes and designs basic dies and simple fixtures with the use of computer software.

Essential Functions:

  • With assistance, analyzes parts-bends and extrudes, using and including all views from the blueprint.
  • With assistance, utilizes (but not limited to) computer software to design parts and die designs.
  • Uses templates in the CAD environment expedite the design process.
  • Utilizes setback for unfolding flat blanks.
  • Utilizes trigonometry in die design.
  • Seeks the input of others and observes tooling in action, in order to better understand die functions.
  • With assistance, designs components, gaining an understanding of how the components can be machined or manufactured.
  • With assistance, designs to incorporate the safe, efficient and ergonomic operation of the press operator, using their input to design more effectively.
  • With assistance, organizes and maintains files.
  • Designs components within the parameters of the EDM machine.
  • With assistance, designs parts for the Fabrication Department.
  • With assistance, organizes and prioritizes workload.
  • Uses Axapta software programs to enter time/payroll information, job information, etc.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience and Skills Required: Recent related mechanical and shop experience preferred, which includes the following skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of the tooling process and machining equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operation of presses, press brakes, laser, and turret machines, which aid in the ability to effectively design around them.
  • Knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods and practices used in production jig and fixture operations.
  • Ability to understand, follow and issue routine oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of related safety requirements to include proper use of safety equipment and proper safety precautions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
