POSITION:
Title I Community Engagement Specialist (Grant-Funded Position)


LOCATION:
Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability


SALARY:
Grade 67 ($3008-$3953/month)


FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months


REPORTS TO:
Executive Director of Elementary Education & Title I


JOB GOAL:
Encourage and promote family, community and business involvement in support of the school and district.


QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • High school graduate or equivalent..
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience serving in a school setting.
  • Experience working with parents and/or community stakeholders outside of the school setting.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students, administrators, community leaders, and others.
  • Ability to develop and compile a variety of records, reports and presentations using a variety of technology skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish orally and in writing.
  • Is organized and detail-oriented.
  • Is committed to family engagement at the school level and at the district level and willing to learn new ways to increase authentic family engagement at both levels.
  • Must willing to work at occasional night-time school/family events.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiates and provides leadership and support for establishing and coordinating family engagement activities at the school level.
  • Conducts workshops and training sessions for parents.
  • Meets, shares, problem solves, and disseminates information and follow-up with school staff and parents.
  • Collaborates and works with service agencies, community resources, and businesses in providing parent support.
  • Informs parents of available support services and resources.
  • Develops and/or coordinates dissemination of newsletters and other printed materials and digital resources that will assist parents in helping their children achieve educational goals.
  • Provides family engagement best practices to school staff and parents while working with the staff in the implementation of family engagement strategies.
  • Develops and updates a Family Engagement web page.
  • Assists in the development, dissemination, and data evaluation of parent surveys.
  • Provides professional development workshops and training sessions for teachers, teacher assistants, and administration in the effective incorporation of parent engagement.
  • Facilitates the annual review, revision, and distribution of schools’ Family Engagement Policy along with the district Family Engagement Policy.
  • Organizes and facilitates Family Engagement district meetings and events.
  • Organizes and facilitates stakeholder meetings and events.
  • Compiles records, reports, and presentations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
  • Must be able to use a variety of automated office equipment such as computers, copiers, etc.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
