Job Title: Janitor/Custodian - Downtown/Valley

This individual is responsible for the overall cleanliness of the UGM Thrift Stores. Duties include picking up inside and outside of the stores, emphasis on cleaning and burnishing floors, cleaning and restocking bathrooms, cleaning windows, and executing typical janitor and maintenance work, i.e., mopping, dusting, maintaining aerosol dispensers, wiping down walls, etc.

May begin during store hours but floor needs to be done before or after hours. May begin schedule after store hours, or before store hours, or any time in between. May be M-F, or T-S as preferred. One store per night on an alternate basis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Clean and disinfect restrooms including toilets and stools, sinks, walls, mirrors, and maintain aerosol dispensers.
• Clean and disinfect countertops around cash registers and displays, and all door handles.
• Emphasize cleaning and burnishing floors throughout the store. Will use Zamboni and/or burnisher daily, and strip and wax floors annually or when necessary.
• Vacuum and dust offices and meeting rooms.
• Clean glass on front doors and occasionally wash outside windows.
• Empty store and parking lot trash cans before the store opens.
• Keep custodial closets organized.
• Order supplies from the UGM Warehouse as needed.
• Secure building and set alarms.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be able to work independently and alone.
• Must be able to walk and stand for an 8-hour shift.
• Prove to be teachable, follow instructions, and organized
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:

Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100%

• Work is primarily indoors. It requires walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, reaching, using hands to touch and feel, using nose to smell, and eyes to see - Continuously.
• Requires a sustained level of energy and stamina, and the ability to move about the store – Continuously.
• Requires the ability to hear, see, smell, and speak clearly – Continuously.

• Zamboni, burnisher, mop, broom, duster, ladder, scissor lift to dust high, and window cleaning equipment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• High-School Diploma preferred.
