Essential Job Functions:
1. Job duties may include some or all of the following functions listed below based on level of
experience with Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program and/or endangered species
2. Locate, identify and mark all marine turtle nest sites laid each night in compliance with the FWC Marine Turtle Guidelines and Marine Turtle Permit under the supervision of an FWC permitted
program administrator, Principle Investigator, or Project Manager
3. Complete nightly checks of marine turtle nest cages
4. Locate, identify and document all false crawls from previous night nesting activity
5. Relocate imperiled nests
6. Excavate nests and assess hatching success
7. Construct and maintain restraining cages as designated by active Marine Turtle Permit
8. Monitor for sea turtle nesting activity in relation to beach re-nourishment projects on Broward
County beaches
9. Assess disorientation events of hatchling marine turtles
10. Collect and enter data related to all aspects of the nesting beach activities and monitoring with an emphasis on accuracy, quality, and efficiency
11. Work on and contribute to collaborative research teams
12. Perform the following major duties that include but are not limited to:
a. Conducting data analysis and computations
b. Collecting/cataloging of field and/or laboratory samples
c. Creating various reports based upon data results
d. Presenting data at conferences, scientific symposium, and professional society meetings
13. Help in training/supervising new beach staff
14. Other duties as assigned

Marginal Job Functions:
1. Scheduling meetings for various groups
2. Assist in outreach and educational components as required by supervisor
3. Assist in sea turtle stranding/salvage events if properly trained and certified to do so

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
1. Knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; database and data entry skills
2. Ability to utilize or learn to utilize software relevant to the research program, new research methods and, work routines quickly
3. Safely operate an all-terrain vehicle to patrol Broward County beach sites
4. Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends
5. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
6. Be able to communicate and maintain working relationships with all contracted staff, volunteers, County and Federal employees, and general public at all times

Job Requirements:
1. Ability to lift heavy objects up to 100 pounds or more
2. Ability to work in difficult field conditions along Broward County beaches
3. Ability to ride on an ATV for extended periods of time

Required Certifications/Licensures:
Must be able complete all required training modules for each component of beach monitoring activities

Required Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Major (if required):
Biology or related science

Required Experience:
Preference will be given to applications that have prior field experience and/or experience working with endangered species. Pay rate is set according to experience in marine turtle beach monitoring activities with the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Marine Biology or related area of study
