Schedule: 40 Hours a week for an assigned period (at least 10 weeks)

The role you’ll contribute:

The painter applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, lacquer, etc., to decorate and protect interior and exterior hospital surfaces. The painter is expected to:

  • Smooth surfaces, fill holes, including nail holes, cracks, and joints.
  • Select premixed paint or blend/mix paints.
  • Protect the work area.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of all types of paints, including but not limited to latex, oil-based, epoxy, etc.
  • Know how to select proper paint for the particular surface to be painted.
  • Demonstrate skill in patching and finishing sheetrock, and assume minor carpentry duties such as cove base, corner guards and wall protection.
  • Have skill in removal and maintenance of wall coverings.
  • Maintain safety standards in regard to work activities.
  • Communicate with manager and team regarding progress of work and activities.
  • Maintain understanding of JCAHO regulations & provides support in meeting the requirements.
Qualifications

  • Follow safety procedures during spraying.
  • Use drop cloths for proper protection of floors and furniture.
  • Protect areas not to be painted.
  • Prepare surfaces by taping, sanding, or cleaning.
  • Measure, cut and finish sheetrock.
  • Perform work orders referring to painting projects.
  • Blend or mix paint if not premixed and apply with brush, roller or spray gun.
  • Mix and match colors to produce professional finishes.
  • Use wiping, brushing, or spraying to apply stain to produce professional finishes.
  • Sand sheetrock in preparation for paint.
  • Know uses and types of thinners and when to apply them.
  • Use different types of sheetrock joint compound, plaster, putty and caulking for filling voids on surfaces.
  • Use stencils to perform sign painting and fixtures.
  • Clean brushes, rollers, and all painting equipment, and properly store equipment.
  • Work order documentation is maintained within 24 hours of work performed

Education and Experience Required

  • Painting and finishing walls and door frames
  • High School diploma required
  • Valid Drivers License required
