POSITION SUMMARY :

Performs complex actuarial analyses, leads in preparing internal management information and financial reports and in the design of new and revised reports. As an Associate Actuary on Kemper Life Actuarial team, you will assist the VP, Valuation Actuary in establishing and leading a world class valuation/reserving function and team to facilitate the continued growth of the organization. This position works closely with the Valuation and Reporting teams, Chief Actuary, CFO organization, and Data Scientists to develop appropriate tools and procedures to reporting financial results.

Location: This is a remote position that can be worked from any US-Based home. *Travel may be required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Work closely with business partners to support bringing external consultant valuation processes, management reporting, and analysis in house
  • Develop new reporting and analysis tools and improving processes related to Valuation
  • Identify opportunities to enhance analysis and improve efficiencies and lead with the implementation
  • Create clear documentation and notes supporting new processes
  • Communicate effectively with management and business partners
  • Review work performed by team members
  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual valuation processes. Deliver timely, accurate and auditable reports for GAAP, Statutory, and Tax as well as analysis of financial trends and forecasts
  • Contribute to monitoring and financial analysis of product line profitability (GAAP, value-added, statutory, etc.). Provide recommendations by reporting findings and business projections to senior management
  • Adhere to internal and external compliance requirements/standards
  • Support management on any ad hoc requests

POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

  • Associate (ASA) or Fellow (FSA) of the Society of Actuaries or the equivalent from other organizations or demonstrates equivalent knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics or related field, or the equivalent in related work experience
  • 6 or more years of experience, preferably with valuation and/or reserving
  • Experience in a publicly traded company

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS:

  • Strong understanding of traditional life, accident & health products and riders, including valuation and reserving methodologies and compliance requirements
  • Take initiative to lead projects of both a technical and non-technical nature
  • Ability to review others' work for reasonableness and evaluate procedures and processes to determine and recommend/implement alternatives for improvement
  • Work effectively to meet deadlines
  • Experience providing internal service to a business, forming strong relationships, understanding client experiences and expectations and working to anticipate needs
  • Experience with Moody’s GGY AXIS or similar actuarial modeling software
  • Strong technical and coding abilities, proficiency with VBA and SQL preferred

The range for this position is $40 to $69 per hour. When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors.
