Professor Amber Spry seeks a graduate research assistant with experience in qualitative analysis to provide support for a project on identity and representation in United States politics. Responsibilities include recruiting participants, managing the interview schedule and coordinating across researcher and participant schedules, conducting virtual in-depth interviews with U.S. residents, transcribing and coding interviews, and providing preliminary assessment of findings.
The RA should be skilled in qualitative analysis and able to perform tasks such as interview transcription, synthesis of interview findings, and be familiar with inputting interview data in qualitative data analysis software such as NVivo. The RA will also assist with writing literature reviews for publications related to the project. This project will be of interest to graduate students whose work engages political science, public policy, gender and women’s studies, or related disciplines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Recruiting participants for virtual interviews
  • Managing interview schedule including coordinating across researcher and participant schedules
  • Conducting semi-structured virtual in-depth interviews
  • Transcribing interviews
  • Inputting interview data and providing preliminary analysis using NVivo
  • Data visualization and reporting of findings
  • Composing literature reviews
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Must be reliable, organized, and detail oriented
  • Experience with in-depth interviews and schedule management required
  • Strong qualitative analysis skills
  • Able to complete analysis tasks on a deadline with minimal to no supervision.
  • Familiarity with NVivo
  • M.A. or Ph.D. student in public policy, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology or related discipline.
Compensation:
  • $25 per hour
  • RA is expected to provide 10-12 hours of support per week to the project
  • Time commitment: January – May 2023
