HMI Utilities, LLC, a subsidiary of Henkels & McCoy Group, Inc., is a utility construction firm providing critical infrastructure for Power, Gas Distribution and Communications markets throughout North America. Due to our continued growth in the utilities market, we are currently recruiting for an experienced Fiber Splicer to join our team.

Overview:

The Fiber/Copper Splicer daily work will involve all aspects of splicing distribution cables in underground, buried and aerial applications. The Fiber/Copper Splicer will also perform testing and create and maintain splicing records, diagrams, and as-built records

Responsibilities/Duties:

· Competent in splicing of Hi-Cap circuits and T1’s / clearing span lines

· Install and maintain pressurized closures; both Waffle and Preform

· Knowledge & proficiency in paper/pulp cable splicing and pair identification·

· Able to actively decipher plant records to trouble shoot/push counts as needed to desired locations to complete orders timely

· Complete accurate paperwork for material and customer billing tracking purposes

· Operate all vehicles, equipment and tools while adhering to company safety standards

· Complete daily inspections and reporting of maintenance issues on vehicles, trailers, and equipment

· Works efficiently to achieve a high level of daily productivity in a fast-paced environment

· Understand and follow specific oral and written instructions

· Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team

· Willingness and ability to learn additional skills

Qualifications:

· Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

· Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.

· A good driving record is required.

· Must have previous experience spicing copper cable.

· Must have knowledge of telecommunications network structure.

· Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

· Must be able to read and build from blueprints and/or wire diagrams.

· Ability to operate technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, TDR/OTDR and fusion splicing equipment as desired by customers.

· Ability to lift and manipulate splice enclosures and other plant and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Certified pole climber or capable of demonstrating proficiency as a pole climber preferred.

· A valid driver's license (CDL Class "A" preferred).

· Previous experience splicing fiber optic and/or copper cable.

Requires medium to heavy manual work that involves walking, standing, lifting, digging, pushing, and raising objects and involves exerting between 20-50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50-100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Job may risk exposure to extreme cold/heat, bright/dim light, dusts, and pollen, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibrations, fumes and noxious odors, traffic, and moving machinery.
