WHO are we looking for?



Saft Batteries in Cockeysville, Maryland, is looking for a mid-level Technical Writer. In this full-time position, you will work with Contracts, Finance, Procurement, Program Managers, Sales, Operations and Engineering.



Ultimately, you will be contributing to the design and development of the next generation of lithium-ion batteries for defense, space, and racing applications. Saft is headquartered in France, with 4,300 employees in 18 countries. Our manufacturing site here in Cockeysville houses the research and development for Saft America’s Space and Defense Divisions.

What will you DO?



  • Prepare customer facing reports in support of contract deliverables, test reports, and other technical documents.
  • Coordinate with Proposal Managers to ensure timely submittal of high quality, well organized, compliant proposals with targeted win themes based on known intelligence.
  • Actively collaborate with:
o Program Managers to prepare customer facing presentations in support of design reviews, project reviews, and other presentations
o Process and Manufacturing Engineers to write work instructions and process specifications for the production floor and test lab
o R&D scientists to create journal papers and conference presentations/preparations
  • Assist with white papers and proposals for all business segments.
  • Prepare a library of reusable text and graphics for business and technical descriptions.
  • Maintain Saft’s ‘Lessons Learned Database.’
  • Conduct training programs on proposal/technical writing (or production topics, as needed) to ensure high-quality, cost-effective output.

What experience is REQUIRED?



  • A Bachelor’s degree in Technical or Professional Writing, English, Communications (or another business-related field).
  • Qualified applicants should have junior to mid-level experience in technical writing, gained within an industrial, engineering or research & development setting.
  • Candidates should employ strong work habits, in regard to codes and standards, time management, meeting preparation/participation and ethics compliance.
  • Candidates must have a proven work history of creating technically accurate and high-quality documentation.

What experience is DESIRED?



  • Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of ISO / AS9100 compliance, configuration management, CDRL / SDRL / DID contract requirements, government document deliverable formats, and preparing and hosting trainings.
  • Prior work experience within worldwide defense/space industries will give candidates an extreme advantage. Highly-qualified candidates will also have experience with document production, written contract deliverables, complex commercial / government proposal preparation, SOP flow, meeting presentations and technical products.
  • Knowledge of proposal preparation/best practices will be extremely helpful. Proposals will be created for both commercial and government entities.
  • Knowledge of battery products would be helpful but is not necessary.
  • Experience with public relations, training, and FBO search/extraction is a plus.
  • Membership in the Association of Proposal Management Professionals is a plus. (An alternate proposal certification would also be suitable.)

What TECHNOLOGY should you have used?
  • Candidates should be expert users of Microsoft Office (Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Office), Adobe Acrobat, and other document development software.

  • This will be a salaried, full-time position in Cockeysville, Maryland.
