Job Description

HII supports the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) and U.S Marine Corps (USMC) program for Command, Control, Communication, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Networking-On-The-Move (NOTM). Under our contract, C4ISR NOTM systems are enhanced to keep pace with advancing technology; reduce size, weight, and power; and transition satellite communications (SATCOM) to a Department of Defense-governed band.


We are seeking a Technical Writer and Editor locally based in the San Diego, CA commuting area. Position allows for remote work with the ability to work onsite as needed. The selected candidate will develop, edit, and modify military technical reports, instructions, and training materials as required to support the NOTM system of systems architecture. This position will contribute directly to NIWC PAC's support of NOTM materiel solutions integrating new and advanced SATCOM capabilities on various ground, air, and sea platforms to meet warfighter needs.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Write, rewrite and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, test plans, test reports, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  • Acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
  • Oversee preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
  • Conduct quality review of materials.
  • Meet all quality standards as established by the NOTM customer.
  • Perform independently and under only general supervision.
  • Communicate clearly, proactively, and frequently via phone, email, chat, or in person.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field or 1 year relevant experience with Masters in related field.
  • Clearance: Secret security clearance required.

Preferred Requirements

  • Microsoft Office suite of tools.
  • Familiarity with military systems, nomenclature, and document formatting standards.

Physical Requirements

  • Job performance will normally require only minor lifting and carrying of boxes of records or equipment.
