POSITION PROFILE

SAY San Diego is currently hiring Teacher Aides to assist with the implementation of the Extended Day, before and after school programs (Elementary or Middle School), on a public school site within the San Diego Unified School District. Actively participate with children in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities including any or all of the following: physical fitness, organized sports, academic projects, fine arts, and practical arts.

THE TEACHER'S AIDE POSITION DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY COLLEGE-LEVEL COURSES OR UNITS

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively participates in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities including any or all of the following: physical fitness, organized sports, academic projects, fine arts, and practical arts
  • Assist Site Supervisor in planning program curriculum
  • Assist Site Supervisor in implementing program curriculum
  • Assist Staff in supervising groups of kindergarten through sixth grade children
  • Assist staff in managing groups of kindergarten through sixth grade children
  • Prepare and provide daily snacks for children
  • Insure appropriate environment
  • Insures safety of children
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations
  • Maintain open communication with parents and school staff
  • Participation in monthly staff and teacher trainings
  • Attend meetings and agency functions as required
  • Substitute at other sites as required
  • Respects families and children’s right to privacy
  • Maintains an organized and clean environment
  • Familiar with Child Protective Services reporting responsibilities
  • Familiar with Title 22 licensing requirements
  • Have and maintain positive and supportive relationships with coworkers
  • Maintain accurate knowledge about the agency, its programs and service
  • Accurately represent the agency to and maintain positive working relationships with the general public, clients, funding sources, government bodies, etc.
  • Communicate positive and negative feedback from the community through your supervisor to management
  • Utilize appropriate opportunities to pursue positive public relations for the agency
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Site Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least age 18 at time of hire
  • Ability to relate well with children and adults
  • A minimum of 6 months experience in the supervision and management of groups of children ages 5-14.
  • Favorable pre-employment TB test and health screening required.
  • Favorable pre-employment DOJ/FBI fingerprinting clearance and child abuse index processing required.
  • Current CPR and First aid certificate must be provided within 30 days of employment.
  • Immunization Records (influenza, pertussis and measles) within 30 days of employment.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (defined as two weeks after two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine)
