Job Title: Teacher Assistant

General Description:

Provides classroom support to Early Childhood Teacher.

Supervision Received: Work is performed under direct supervision of the Early Childhood Center Supervisor and indirect supervision of assigned Early Childhood Teacher.

Supervision Exercised: None

Supervision Essential Job Functions:

  • 1. Assists in developing plans, activities, and instructional aids for use in classroom as delegated by teacher.
  • 2. Following prescribed guidelines of the teacher, aids in instructing preschool children in a variety of academic and developmental areas such as music, art, language and cognitive skills, nutrition, health, culture and organized play using a variety of teaching methods.
  • 3. Responsible for children’s safety and well-being inside and outside of facilities and at all activities.
  • 4. Assists teacher with student home visits twice a year.
  • 5. Learns and instructs students in basic Chickasaw language vocabulary.
  • 6. Attends parent meetings and policy council meetings as assigned.
  • 7. Responsible for keeping the classroom clean and free from clutter.
  • 8. Responsible for maintaining and submitting in-kind documentation.
  • 9. Assists with on-going monitoring of the systems and services of the program including individual goal observations for children.
  • 10. Responsible for driving or offering monitoring on the school bus for daily routes, field trips or other events as assigned.
  • 11. Completes 15 hours of professional development training per year.
  • 12. Responsible for monitoring student’s health needs and contacting parents when child is observed to be ill.
  • 13. Aids in ensuring classroom and playground facilities and equipment are safe for children and removes potential hazards or reports them to center supervisor.
  • 14. Assists in monitoring daily attendance.
  • 15. Utilizes the computerized child tracking system as directed.
  • 16. Immediately reports any potential health and well-being concerns of students (i.e. abuse, neglect) as required by law.
  • 17. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Preferred - Knowledge of the principles and practices of early childhood education and development. Preferred - Ability to effectively teach children various skills and knowledge. Preferred - Ability to communicate effectively verbally and orally. Preferred - Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, children, parents, and the public. Preferred - Understanding of Native American culture and tribal programs.

Education:

Associates Required - Early childhood or related field.

Education Note:

OR Minimum of 30 hours of completed higher education course work with continuing education toward degree completion upon hiring required.

Training And Experience:

Preferred Experience (6 months - 3 years) - In a school setting.

Licenses, Certifications, Other:

Required - Current, valid driver’s license Required - Required to obtain CDL within six months of employment. Required - Background check.

Physical Requirements:

Required - Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Required - Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Required - Grasping, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a classroom environment. Occasionally may be outside or visit other facilities and other locations. Light travel is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $14.01 per hour
