Job Summary:

The Systems Administrator is one of the most critical positions in the Information Technology department as it deals with all critical and non-critical IT systems, infrastructure, and security.  The Systems Administrator II is part of the Information Technology (I.T.) Department residing in the Infrastructure Division. This team is responsible for both critical and non-critical IT systems, infrastructure, and security. The main role for this position is to configure, maintain, manage, monitor, and support various City departmental applications and systems including, but not limited to, VMware vSphere, SAN shared storage, Microsoft Windows Servers, Active Directory, Exchange email, M365, azure, email archiving, email filtering, and file shares along with administration and management of services such as DNS, DHCP, WSUS, PKI, KMS, and others. Additional responsibilities will include working as a team member on various technology projects and resolving technical support requests, along with configuring and hardening the environment against possible cyber threats.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree gained through a four-year college/university academic program or specialized technical training of equivalent length.
  • 3-5 years' relevant work experience is required.
  • High level of quality and accuracy with attention to details.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to non-technical staff and customers.
  • Ability to work independently and reliably.
  • Sound decision-making ability to take direction from management on general work assignment in terms of overall goals, and with freedom to decide and based on broad policies and procedures, determine how and when the results will be achiever.
  • Ability to pass CJIS background check and drug screen; ability to lift 35 lbs.; and possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Manage, maintain, and monitor Virtual Infrastructure, VMware, 100+ Windows servers associated with applications and services.
  • Daily work involves, VMware, Microsoft applications including but not limited to Server OS, Exchange, DNS, DHCP, PowerShell, Active directory structure and group policy control, server hardware, SAN hardware control and management, Proofpoint email filtering, Autostore, Remote desktop technologies, Veeam backup hardware, Okta, Milestone, M365, Azure, MDM Workspace ONE, Jira service desk, KnowBe4, and Microsoft Security and Compliance.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide IT assistance to the organization in a professional and timely manner.
  • Manage, maintain, and monitor virtual infrastructure; over 100 virtual and physical servers associated with applications and services.
  • Evaluate and install patches, software updates, and resolve software-related problems.
  • Manage internal and external TLS/SSL certificates and DNS entries.
  • Perform systems maintenance tasks, such as system backup, recovery.
  • Communicate, resolve or escalate services desk tickets.
  • Administer enterprise applications.
  • Assist with compliance, policy and other administrative security standards.
  • Administer anti malware software – crowd strike, windows defender.
  • Responsible for supporting and administering cloud environment including M365/Azure, SSO, Antivirus.
  • Assisting in penetration tests and risk assessment.
  • Project management team member- supports the project manager in performing the work of the project to achieve its objectives.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems as well as other enterprise applications. Deep knowledge of group policy and how Active directory integrates with other systems. Ability to maintain all types of hardware used to deliver data and applications to the City of Greeley.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
  • The essential functions of this job require occasional carrying/lifting light objects, feeling, hearing, pushing, reaching, standing, and talking; continuously fingering, grasping, repetitive motion, and sitting.
  • Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data/figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading of printed materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices-graphs and gauges; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • Employee is required to have visual acuity for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee is required to perform minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Work is primarily sedentary and may occasionally require lifting and carrying light objects and walking and/or standing as needed and minimal; other physical duties may entail server and storage array transport and installation and network cabling.
  • Marginal to moderate hazards that are typically predictable or well protected against.
  • Employee is subject to inside environment with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • Employee may be asked to drive a personal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Employee may be required to travel with associated risks inherent to travel by car/air.
  • Employee is subject to working alone and/or with groups and/or attends meetings.
  • Employee spends extended periods of time at fixed workstation.
  • Employee may be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.
  • Employee may be required to work overtime, holidays, evenings, shifts, or weekends.
  • Employee may have frequent interruptions; required to multi-task; inflexible deadlines.
  • Employee may have frequent contact with the public-in person, via email/telephone and may experience adverse or confrontational situations with internal/external customers.
  • Employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions-as in typical office or administrative work.
  • Environment may contain marginal to having moderate hazards that are typically predictable or well protected against; overall, the environment is safe with the exception of working in the data centers where there is exposure to high voltage when working with the ACs, UPS, or plugging in equipment.
