The Senior Manager-Sustaining Engineer will design and implement a strategy for the overall lifecycle management of PPG product lines. This is your opportunity to have an impact on the business!

TITLE: Senior Manager – Sustaining Engineering

I. GENERAL FUNCTION

The Sr. Manager - Sustaining Engineering manages the Operational Engineering staff, including Engineers, CAD and Product Compliance personnel, provides direction on the daily activities of the team. The Manager is responsible for improvements to existing products, technical support of existing products, product compliance and the lifecycle management of the PPG product lines. The Manager, seeks out ideas, processes and technologies that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Engineering department, contributes to the enduring success of PPG’s product lines and a high-quality level of technical support.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Forms departmental work plans to adhere yearly capital goals, preparing, submitting to department head, responsible for executing work plans to ensure budget is met.
  • Manages continuous improvement projects from concept stage to implementation. Responsible for the successful implementation, ensuring high quality, on-time and on-budget goals are met.
  • Manage resourcing/Cost saving projects from Engineering side, work closely with Purchasing and Quality to ensure targets met
  • Manages and coordinates Company custom-product projects through product engineering, project management and weekly meetings with commercial team.
  • Manages product compliance, ensure product meets codes and regulations, meet company’s budget.
  • Manages technical support function to other departments
  • Identifying staffing needs, actively trains, manages an adequate force of technicians & engineers while maintaining high morale & efficiency within the department
  • Interacts with the New Product Development team to ensure a smooth transition of products from NPD to Sustaining Engineering
  • Interacting and problem solving with international suppliers on product issues, design enhancements to facilitate continuous improvements of proprietary products especially.
  • Drives activities to ensure all engineering data on existing products is sufficiently documented, accurate & properly categorized.
  • Manage ECN & ECR process, and all departmental process

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises and direct the activities of the Sustaining Engineering Department.
  • Approve all expenditures within the confines of the department operating and capital expense budgets.

II. RELATIONSHIPS

  • The Sr. Manager – Sustaining Engineering reports to the VP- Engineering & Strategic Sourcing.
  • Close interactions: Staff Engineering Department, Operations, Marketing, Sales, Customer Service teams
  • External interactions: Codes, Standards, Regulatory personnel, key suppliers – both domestic and international

III. QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/SKILLS

  • Knowledge and work experience of developing new products, resourcing and project management preferably at management level.
  • Bachelor of Science, major in Engineering preferred and/or recognized equivalent educational credential and work experience.
  • Knowledge and work experience of plumbing, product/project development preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as an Engineer Manager, Product Development Manager or related experience.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and oral presentations for customers, vendors, or associates.
  • Ability to assign work, schedule and prioritize to obtain the most effectiveness within the department.
  • Able to use 3D/2D design software

IV. PHYSICAL DEMAND

  • Ability to successfully implement cost reduction projects within scope, on-budget & on-time.
  • Successful execution of defined metrics for success.
  • The keeping of the product resourcing program within the scope of the long range corporate objectives.
  • The supplying to other departments of advisory and counseling services.
  • The maintenance of a high level of morale and enthusiasm in the department.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral) which are both clear & professional.
  • Evaluation of employee using PPG CATT metrics (annual evaluation by manager).
