: SUPERVISOR OF FINANCE

OSITION SUMMARY: Responsibilities include managing the day-to-day assignments of Department of Finance staff, taking the lead on all audits, assisting the chief financial officer with oversight of school activity fund operations, treasury management, assisting with the development and management of the operating budget, financial reporting to the Maryland State Department of Education.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
:

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in education, business administration, accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of direct experience in the fields of governmental accounting, finance, budget, and technology in the public or private sector.


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
:

  • Have demonstrated leadership and administrative abilities in the area of accounting and finance.
  • Have the ability to oversee staff and build consensus among professionals unfamiliar with financial management.
  • Possess knowledge of county, state, and federal regulations pertaining to public education accounting and finance.
  • Have demonstrated proficiency in the use of software applications including (but not limited to) eFinancePLUS, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign, and other applications utilized by Calvert County Public Schools.
  • Have demonstrated experience with various aspects of the financial operations of a public school system (including but not limited to accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, auditing, budgeting, and treasury management).
  • Have demonstrated experience with MSDE financial reporting and MABE reporting.
  • Have demonstrated experience with quarterly Form 941 and unemployment insurance reporting.
  • Have such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Have demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as an assistant and advisor to the chief financial officer regarding all financial matters.
  • Coordinates and supervises the accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grant functions.
  • Provides direction and support to other departments and schools regarding financial matters.
  • Coordinates the compilation of financial data for local, state, and/or federal agencies.
  • Ensures financial compliance with county, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Supports the financial and school system goals of the superintendent of schools.
  • This position is responsible for the above duties and responsibilities and others related to this position as determined by the chief financial officer.

  • Follows instructions and completes tasks given by the chief financial officer.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: Work is performed in a typical office environment and may require minimal lifting. Position requires significant periods of sedentary work using a computer, monitor, and mouse, but may also include periods of standing and walking.


UNUSUAL DEMANDS
: May be required to work flexible hours as necessary.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
: Twelve (12) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications applied to the current Calvert County Public School’s salary schedule for classified supervisory support staff (Meet & Confer). All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.


FLSA STATUS
: Exempt


EVALUATION
: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.

Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
