Job Summary
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Student Success Advisor

The Center for Academic Advising & Retention is recruiting for Student Success Advisors. This recruitment has the potential for multiple hires made from the pool of qualified applicants.
The Center for Academic Advising & Retention supports and encourages student persistence, student degree completion, and the student connection to the resources that support persistence and degree completion. This is accomplished by assisting students with identifying long-term goals, developing academic plans and strategies for persistence and degree completion, and accessing University resources that support the individualized needs of each student. Operating from an Appreciative Advising philosophy, Student Success Advisors build and sustain ongoing educational relationships through proactive caseload management. A successful Student Success Advisor will have experience working with programs focused on developing grit, growth mindset, mental resilience or other persistence-based interventions.
The Student Success Advisor will consult regularly with CAAR supervisors, university staff, and administration to maintain up-to-date awareness of university programs, information, technologies, and procedures; conduct group presentations/classes; and assist in planning and maintaining overall advising program. The Student Success Advisor will accomplish this by working in a collaborative environment as part of a team within CAAR. Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (any field).
  • Two (2) years of experience in academic coaching, academic advising, or related field; working with groups and or individuals setting and completing goals, and encouraging persistence and resilience.
  • Work experience utilizing philosophy or theory-based practices to facilitate student success inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a positive collaborative manner to build partnerships and work effectively as a contributing member of an advising team in a fast-paced, high-stress university/college system.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer technologies such as databases, internet, spreadsheets, tracking systems, and word processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and time while under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Professional experience with programs that provide services to students from underrepresented and/or first generation populations.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in related fields such as adult education, academic advising, or academic coaching.
  • Professional teaching and advising experience of students in a college or university setting which includes a focus on advising, persistence, retention, or student success programs.
  • Fluency in a second language.

DIRECT STUDENT SUPPORT :
  • Provide one-to-one advising to low, moderate and high risk student populations as assigned by the advising leadership team.
  • Assist students with developing their academic plans, consistent with their life, career, and educational goals, while ensuring steady progress towards graduation.
  • Determine student needs, identify types of academic problems/difficulties that individual students are experiencing, and refer them to appropriate services.
  • Build and sustain educational relationships with students that support student persistence, degree completion, and student/University connection.
  • Teach student success curriculum and programming through workshops, seminars and classes, which may include instruction in EWU academic policies and procedures, educational planning tools, career decisions, time management, study skills, and decision-making skills.
  • Collaborate with faculty to deliver First Year Experience curriculum and programming that infuses educational support methods and best practices to assist students in their academic and social preparedness and integration during the early part of their undergraduate careers.
  • Organize and host student success and retention focused events for students as directed by the leadership team.
  • Use technology to identify students in need of intervention and intervene as needed.
  • Proactively communicate with students assigned to the advising team.
  • Access, review, and maintain student records. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all student information.
  • All other related duties as assigned.
