Minimum Education: Current enrollment with good standing in the final semester of an accredited nursing program.
Minimum Work Experience: Must have successfully completed Nursing Fundamentals and accompanying Clinical rotations.
Required Licenses / Certifications: Student Nurse Apprentice Certificate valid in the State of Idaho. BLS certified (through an American Heart Association program) Must pass RN boards within 3 months of graduation, will continue to work at BMH for at least 1 year after completing orientation.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately. Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred. Basic computer knowledge is preferred. Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.



BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Responsible for assisting the Patient Care Provider through appropriate delegation to provide patient care under the direction of a licensed RN within the Idaho Student Nurse Apprentice scope of certification and the policies of BMH Inc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel. Maintains current knowledge and certifications. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide non-direct patient care/support services to staff under the direction of licensed personnel. Utilizes the Paragon system within scope of practice. Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibility related to general safety, department safety and specific job related hazards. Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plan for Blood-borne and Airborne Pathogens. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Provide assistance through taking, documenting, and reporting vital signs, blood glucoses, height, weight, unit orientation and belonging list admit sheets. Operate medical center equipment such as computers, paging systems; in order to perform duties of the job. Maintain a safe and clean working environment consistent with OSHA,, Joint Commission, Infection Surveillance, and BMH standards. Communicate accurate and pertinent information with patient care providers and other members of the staff to facilitate effective and efficient patient care. Assist patients in hygiene needs, as defined by unit/area(s) of assignment, including but not limited to: Shower/Baths, Beds/Linen change, Toileting, Grooming. Initiate care (ADL's) based on patient's problems or needs, medical diagnosis and the functional health framework as delegated by PCP Document care (ADL's) provided. Communicate patient condition/change in condition to PCP or Medical Provider. Document care based on standards of care and practice. Provide care to patients with conditions common to the unit/area of assignment. Provide assistance with patient ambulation and activity in transporting patient as necessary. Serve as a role model and mentor to new hire personnel and students in health care professions. Nurse Apprentices may perform select technical skills after validating competence and appropriate to delegation guidelines. May perform phlebotomy and EKG skills after appropriate training. May perform select Unit Clerk skills after appropriate training.
