Overview



Applications are being accepted for a full-time Student Involvement Specialist at Moraine Park Technical College, West Bend campus. This position will plan, coordinate and lead student activities within student life to enhance student retention and engagement for the assigned campus. This student facing position may work occasional evenings and weekends and travel is required.

Summary of Work Schedule-Academic: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Total Hours/Week-Academic: 37.5
Summary of Work Schedule-Summer: Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Total Hours/Week-Summer: 34
Weeks per year: 48

Hiring range: $21.52-$25.32

Responsibilities



1. Work with other student life employees to plan and implement annual student activities that support and align with the learning process through student learning outcomes and assessment tools to monitor effectiveness of student life initiatives as they relate to the College Career and Life Skills. Incorporate technology to provide innovative, multi-dimensional programming which promotes student success for traditional and diverse populations.
2. Collaborate with Academic employees and faculty while emphasizing purposeful programing tied to the Career and Life Skills, including the use of metrics and event data collection. Advocate for students and represent student life while serving on college-wide committees and teams. Establish relationships with external vendors and other technical college counterparts in the setup of student activities and leadership of the campus student senate.

3. Serve as a liaison between students and faculty, associate deans, deans and other college employees. Help students to portray their concerns and problem-solve in an effective and efficient manner. Assist student in implementing the Career and Life Skills and serve as a professional mentor. Promote building community relationships amongst students and employees to maximize the facilities, technical and social atmosphere.

4. Assist students with student activity, student life and other College-related questions. Refer student to counselors, advisors, faculty and other college resources, as appropriate; follow-up to ensure that student needs are met. Explain college policies, procedures, processes and college catalog information. Guide students to the proper processes and resources.

5. Provide leadership development and coordination for student senate, student organizations and activities consistent with district philosophy, policies and procedures which include monitoring student program club activities, financial transactions and record keeping. Serve as a resource for student organizations and advisors. Develop and update the student club handbook for student organizations and advisors and recommend policies and procedures related to student life to provide college-wide consistency.

6. Collaborate and partner with college wide events and initiatives.

7. Co-advise and mentor District Student Government (DSG) and Wisconsin Student Government (WSG) and ACE representatives. Recruit and develop students to serve on DSG and WSG and ACE and serve as a liaison between campus senates, the respective organizations and the College.

8. Recommend marketing strategies to increase student awareness of involvement in College activities and develop related promotional materials.

9. Provide input for development and implementation of a student life strategic plan to increase retention and engage students in active learning. Coordinate an activities model in student development which includes forging educational partnerships that advance student learning.

10. Coordinate the development and implementation of club leadership training for advisors and students. Coordinate and manage logistics for campus-specific conferences and events. Manage conference travel arrangements and supervise students. Prepare and monitor student activity budgets for approval by Campus Student Senate. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

2. One year of related experience to include experience working in student life. Experience working at a two-year or technical college preferred.
3. Any combination of equivalent training and experience which provides desired knowledge, skills and abilities.

4. Familiarity with educational settings, general public relations and the mission of technical colleges.

5. Familiarity with student development theory and needs of two-year college students.

6. Ability to lead student groups, motivate students and encourage participation.

7. Demonstrated experience in planning, coordinating and evaluating recreational, educational, marketing and/or cultural activities.

8. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with students, employees and the community. Familiarity with community desired. Portrays a positive demeanor with customers at all times.

9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

10. Willingness to take initiative, work independently with little supervision and make decisions with minimal direction. Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to prioritize projects with routine assignments.

11. Strong problem-solving skills.

12. Ability to manage and resolve conflicts a constructive manner.

13. Ability to maintain confidentiality and apply confidentiality rules/guidelines/laws. Knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) preferred.

14. Thorough knowledge of common database operations and educational software applications. Experience with Banner or other student administration systems, MS Office, and the Internet.

15. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
