JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Structural Designer

Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: With supervision, the Structural Designer performs discipline responsibilities within Project and Departmental scope and budgets. This includes designing three-dimensional structural models, preparing two dimensional plans, sections, details, sketches, and accompanying technical documents to form construction document packages at the direction by one or more Engineers or Senior Designers.

The Structural Designer is accountable technically to the Structural Best Practices Leader and administratively to the Facilities Department Manager and Project Managers for successfully executing the discipline's work.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The responsibilities listed are fundamental to the position and must be performed successfully to achieve the key performance objectives of the role. Other responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Work closely with Project Leads and other Designers to deliver technically correct and graphically complete project documents including drawings and sketches.
  • Proactively request information needed to progress your work as well as informing others of information they need to complete their work.
  • Attend project and discipline / department meetings as required.
  • Deliver discipline project scope of services on-time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with other in-house engineering discipline leads.
  • Ensure conformance of the discipline's work with customer and Process Plus standards and practices.
  • Manage issuance of documents for quality control through the department and office.
  • Awareness of project design base scope and change management when appropriate.
  • Present model and project design information at team meetings and client walk thrus.
  • Adherence to discipline best practices for consistent drawing presentation.
  • Perform clash detection tests for issuance packages against other disciplines’ models.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills. Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and various managers in a fast- paced environment.
  • Ability to perform quantity take-off on projects for development of probable construction cost.
  • Basic familiarity with reviewing vendor submittals including structural steel, concrete mixes, bar joist, and other relevant shop drawing submittals and vendor equipment for to verify compliance with the construction documents.
  • Commitment to excellence, high standards, and a desire to develop professionally through training and continuing education.
  • Basic familiarity and experience with preparing structural construction documents, structural systems, graphical standards, and terminology.

Education/Experience:

  • Two-or-four-year degree in Structural Engineering Technology or related field and/or 5 or more years' experience in the field of structural engineering which includes, but is not limited to, the detailing of concrete and structural steel relevant to the Chemicals, Consumer Goods, Food & Beverage or Pharmaceutical industries preferred.
  • 2 years Revit experience
  • Experience working in the team environment of a multi-discipline engineering firm is preferred, but not required.

SOFTWARE:

  • Fundamental mastery of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Fundamental mastery of Autodesk’s Revit Structure, AutoCAD, and Navisworks Manage.
  • Skype for Business & WebEx is preferred, but not required.

Effective Date: Hiring Immediately

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,442.59 - $81,180.92 per year
