Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the PSEG/ PSEG Long Island employee benefit strategy, as well managing/ monitoring vendor performance, the fringe budget and special projects. Additionally this position serves as a liaison between implementation and administration of benefits within Corporate Benefits, IT and Payroll, and serves as a subject matter expert in related HR and Payroll initiatives that crossover into benefits. This role includes managerial reponsibilities for two direct reports who support the company's health and wellbeing strategy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the analysis/planning in support of the benefits fringe budget, including preparation and monitoring to ensure spend is within budget. Develop and maintain metrics to address vendor performance and benefit program engagements.
  • Provide strategy for all benefit programs with a focus on emerging trends in Health & Welfare, wellness and retirement benefits. Overall objective is to manage trend, achieving cost savings and improve overall employee experience. This position will support, and in some cases, lead special projects that crossover or have employee benefit implications.
  • Collaborate with Procurement to identify new vendor partners, inclusive of coordinating RFPs, negotiating pricing, and developing vendor contacts ensuring delivery of services and performance meet expected quality. Identify new programs and solutions, to continuously improve value, delivery and offer cost advantages. It will require development of recommendations to Senior Leadership and the Employee Benefit Committee as well as participation in implementation activities. Work with our strategic partners in addressing needed improvements and service enhancements from our existing vendors. In conjunction with the ongoing administration team, work with internal IT in implementing new technological improvements to enhance participant and administrative experience.
  • In coordination with the Manager of Employee Benefits, develop the benefit strategy in support of union negotiations. Provide strategic support to special projects related to mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Lead the triennial claim audits with benefits carriers and external consultants. Review and sign-off on carrier requirements documents each year to ensure that the benefit carriers to ensure and assess that they are consistent with PSEG plan provisions. In support of Annual Enrollment, lead and partner with external consultants to develop annual employee rates, obtain approval from EBC, and present to union leaders.
  • Provide direction, oversight and performance/talent developmental feedback to 2 direct reports
  • Lead and participate on cross functional teams to achieve HR initiatives. Special Projects
  • Responsible for compliance and regulatory activities that impact PSEG benefit programs. Includes determining necessary actions, recommendations and project plan for new regulatory changes
  • Assist and provide input with any benefit errors including troubleshooting, clean up strategy, and/or communication to participants, vendors, etc.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 10 years experience in Health & Welfare, Wellbeing, and Retirement Benefit Strategy
  • In lieu of degree, min 12 years experience in Health & Welfare, Wellbeing, and Retirement Benefit Strategy

Specific Skills/Other Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10 years’ experience in Health & Welfare (H&W), wellbeing, and retirement benefits strategy; in lieu of Bachelor’s degree, requirement is for 12 years’ experience in H&W, wellbeing and retirement benefits strategy. Demonstrated strong knowledge of ERISA, COBRA and other regulatory provisions impacting H&W plans, as well as Retirement plans.
  • Strong ability to develop strategic business case presentations to senior leadership and unions.
  • Intermediate Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, partnering with other lines of business (e.g. IT, Payroll, Legal, Finance) and third party resources to achieve mutual goals
  • Ability to provide strategic recommendations to improve overall efficiency of dept. and benefits programs
  • Ability to use best practice knowledge and knowledge of internal and/or external business issues to improve products or services
  • A wide degree of creativity, analytic and strategic thinking is expected
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance
