Description of Work Unit
It is the mission of the Colorado State University Parking Services Department to manage parking resources in a manner that supports the campus activities and enhances life in the community. This is accomplished by selling parking permits and enforcing parking regulations by issuing citation warnings and citations; and planning, developing, and maintaining the University parking facilities.

Position Summary
Duties of this position include a variety of tasks in the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and systems associated with Parking and Transportation Demand Management facilities and amenities. The facilities include the Lake Street Parking Garage, South College Garage, a large number of surface parking lots, miles of bike paths, and amenities associated with the Transportation Demand Management programs. Work includes repairing, renovating, maintaining, and painting associated parking building and bicycle equipment. The position performs maintenance/repair and collection of the multi-space Pay Stations.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years (24 months/full time) of experience in the building maintenance trades which may have included electrical, carpentry, painting, mechanical systems, landscaping and irrigation systems, and other closely related maintenance trades that required the use of power and hand tools.

  • Experience performing structural maintenance outdoors during snow, rain, extreme heat, and other inclement weather conditions.
  • Experience operating a wide variety of hand tools and power tools.
  • The ability to learn and utilize technology in order to perform daily job activities; e.g., web-based software and mobile devices to communicate with team and receive/log work activities.
  • Experience successfully working autonomously and the ability to prioritize work activities based on urgency, customer convenience, and other environmental factors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform light repairs and maintenance on hardware, software, and electronics (as found in electronic parking stations and meters).
  • Experience providing helpful, courteous customer service to a diverse set of customers.
  • The ability to successfully cooperate with a small team to accomplish planned and unplanned daily activities.

INSPECT AND MAINTAIN THE LAKE STREET AND SOUTH COLLEGE PARKING GARAGES

Duty/Responsibility

Perform daily inspection of the Lake Street and South College Parking Garages. Monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots the garage’s mechanical systems, which includes but is not limited to: lighting system, elevators, fire sprinkler system, parking deck and signage systems.

In the event of mechanical problems, uses judgement and determines whether to perform the proper maintenance or contacts the responsible contractor to perform the maintenance.

Remains alert to conditions and events occurring in the garage indicating misuse and anticipated or needed repairs and maintenance.

Removes snow in, on, and around the parking garage; making sure that vehicular and pedestrian passage is safe.

Performs general janitorial tasks in keeping the parking garage clean and safe.

Duty/Responsibility

Responsible for the placement, installation, relocation, and repair and maintenance of all new and current alternative parking infrastructure under Parking and Transportation’s purview. Including but not limited to: bicycle racks, long-board/skateboard racks, bicycle fix-it stations, and any associated signage.

Responsible for the installation and maintenance of bicycle and multi-use path striping; painted and thermoplastic pavement symbols.

Duty/Responsibility

Designs and makes new signage for parking operations, utilizing a sign making software and printer. Designs and makes the signs to meet Federal and State requirements. Installs the new signs utilizing the correct trade techniques, and to meet the Federal and State requirements. Monitors signage equipment and materials, making sure there is no down time with the operation.

Monitors existing signage; and repairs, replaces, or realigns the signs to meet regulatory needs. Scrapes/cleans curbs and repaints using the proper equipment and technique. Repaints parking lot striping as needed.

Duty/Responsibility

Performs daily inspection of meters and pay stations. Monitors the CALE Back Office software for the CALE Pay Stations. Is responsible and accountable for the timely collection of funds from parking pay stations and meters.

Responsible for keeping the pay stations operable at all times. Responds to calls for service from internal and external customers. Performs and/or coordinates response, diagnosis and repairs in a timely manner according to the unit or department criteria.
