JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the professional growth and development of campus staff, nursing practitioners, and ancillary/support personnel through the assessment and orientation of personnel and through providing continuing education opportunities. Plans, develops, directs, evaluates, coordinates and directly executes the education curriculum for Providence Place staff and directs the preparation, scheduling, and selection of instructional materials, equipment, and training aids to ensure a modern, meaningful education program is available to the Providence Place staff.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY

A thorough knowledge of the practices and procedures in the use and function of Staff Development Coordinator principles. Strong written and oral communication skills. Effective in establishing and maintaining rapport with staff. Must possess the ability to maintain composure under pressure. Must be able to fluently communicate in or to take or give direction or guidance in the English language. The Staff Development Coordinator will possess a genuine interest in and concern for all Glencroft residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Regular attendance is considered an essential function of this position and is necessary for the efficient operation of the business.
  • Responsible for all assigned employee’s training, including in-services and mandatories, on a timely and compliant basis.
  • Responsible for the provision of professional/constructive feedback, coaching, disciplinary actions, and mentoring of assigned employees.
  • Responsible for ensuring all Nursing Department competency with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to succeed in the position.
  • Conducts routine med pass audits on all licensed nurses upon hire, and then annually thereafter.
  • Develops, plans, implements, and evaluates the continuing education programs to meet the facility and departmental objectives as well as regulatory requirements for all personnel. Identifies education needs through interaction with the Director of Nursing and clinical managers.
  • Plans and coordinates the orientation programs for all new hires and new nursing and ancillary personnel to provide an introduction to the facility; its policies and procedures, mission and vision, expected core competencies for each position, job descriptions and duties and other employment expectations.
  • Provides meaningful interface with all nursing unit teams.
  • Assesses and directs the preparation, scheduling, and selection of instructional material, equipment and training aids to ensure that a modern and meaningful education program is available to all facility personnel.
  • Develops and maintains monthly education schedules and individual staff education and orientation records consistent with campus policies and procedures and the requirements of regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in setting departmental performance standards, goals, and objectives, and in establishing and implementing policies and procedures for the nursing department; serves on the Administrative, Safety Committee, and Nursing Policy & Procedure Committee; acts as a resource for nursing personnel in interpreting and complying with facility policies and procedures.
  • Serves as coordinator for the CNA Preceptor Program.
  • Serves as liaison and point of contact for local educational institutions to enhance and coordinate students into employment at Glencroft.
  • Directs and supports the development of individual staff skills and knowledge to meet resident needs by planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating in-service education needs of staff in compliance with regulatory requirements and resident needs.
  • Develops monitoring tools to identify problem areas and recommends and implements corrective action; is a member of and reports for nursing department to the Total QAPI Committee.
  • Responsible for attending in-services and staff meetings, as required by facility policies and procedures.
  • Performs all duties of QAA/Staff Development Coordinator competently and with a positive and cooperative attitude.
  • Participates in the orienting of nursing staff, including mandatories and recurring training.
  • Participates in quality assurance and total quality management of Nursing Department in accordance with nursing practice standards and facility policy & procedures.
  • Responsible for nursing personnel compliances regarding licensure, TB tests, and mandatories.
  • Provides rewards and recognition incentives to nursing employees.
  • Collects data for quality reporting including observations in patient care areas. Provides education in real time to staff as needed.
  • Utilizes information obtained via performance improvement activities to identify opportunities to improve patient care processes.
  • Demonstrates ability to problem solve, think critically and creatively, and provide assistance to clinical departments
  • Formulates quality action plans, performs root cause analysis and recommends alternative courses of action to reduce potential quality and/or risk concerns or to improve existing processes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current methodology and practices and database systems to document occurrences, committee review and actions. Compiles QAPI reports for committees and administrative team.
  • Coordinates data collection and outlines timeframes/reporting requirements for deliverables.
