General Description: Senior Director of Programs and Services

New Hope Housing is an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness in Northern Virginia. This executive leader will guide a team that provides services ranging from street outreach to low-barrier shelters to permanent supportive housing. On any given day, 350 people find safety and hospitality in a New Hope Housing operated facility. On every one of those given days the Senior Director for Programs and Services will be rethinking homelessness and inspiring those around them to do the same.

Leadership Scope

An integral member of the executive leadership team, and reporting to the Chief Executive Officer this individual leads the day-to-day resident services at program sites of New Hope Housing. This includes three low-barrier shelters, and outreach, and supportive housing programs of which each is led by a director. The Senior Director for Programs and Services drives processes that ensure the accomplishment of organizational goals and priorities in accordance with agency philosophy and values.

The executive leadership team of New Hope Housing includes the CEO, the Senior Director for Programs and Services, and the leaders of External Affairs, Human Resources, Finance, and Major Giving (fundraising).

Supporting the work of the Senior Director for Programs and Services, in a special way, are the Directors of Human Resources, and Compliance and Quality Assurance.

The Director of Human Resources provides direct collaboration to ensure that positions are created thoughtfully and accurately. Further, working together with the Senior Director, on-boarding and staff sustaining efforts are put in place to ensure high standards and optimal performance.

The Director of Compliance and Quality Assurance provides direct collaboration by monitoring the requirements of government contracts that fund programs, helps create continuous improvement plans, and to increase overall quality.


Tasks to be Performed:

  • Communicates regularly with the Chief Executive Officer providing advice and counsel on strategic and operational matters pertaining to the programs and work of New Hope Housing.
  • Lead and mentor reporting directors in achieving their program and professional goals.
  • Lead and provide oversight for program delivery. Deploys staff accountability measures that are equitable and in accordance with agency philosophy, best practices, and grant and contract requirements.
  • Mentors and trains program staff. Is responsible for appropriate staff are properly on-boarded and trained and that training is regularly updated.
  • Develops and implements best practices, generates reports and other statistical information to ensure that desired outcomes are being achieved.
  • Monitors program expenditures and proposes adjustments as necessary.
  • Leads and manages direct reports. Is a collaborative leader, working with others, both individually and as a team. Provides coaching and professional development support to direct reports. Meets regularly with direct reports. Evaluates performance.
  • Fosters existing and relevant relationships with Fairfax County, Arlington County, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and HUD.
  • Works flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnights when needed.


Qualifications:

  • BA required; Master of Social Work of LCSW preferred.
  • At least 15 years of experience providing social services to at-risk persons. Work with persons experiencing homelessness is a plus.
  • At least five years of leadership and management experience.
  • Ability to take ownership and work independently or in collaboration with others.
  • Exceptional people skills. Ability to build teams, work in a collaborative environment, and work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Strong ability to use data and metrics to monitor and assess program performance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ability to quickly learn additional software programs. Familiarity with databases.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record. Able to be insured by our insurance company. Has reliable transportation; this position requires local travel.
