POSITION SUMMARY*

The Spiritual Health advisor provides pastoral care, spiritual assessment and referral in response to identified patient needs in our clinics. In partnership with the Spiritual Health team, this position also equips the staff to provide spiritual care to patients and encourages a distinctively Christian culture. This position also serves as a bridge between local churches/ministries and the clinic.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*

See patients and document the following offered services:

• Prayer
• Pastoral care
• Assessment of Spiritual Health
• Action Point to move closer to Christ
• Follow-up phone call or email after visit (if desired)
• Referral to local churches and resources as needed

• Champion Devotionals with goal of staff involvement
• Equip staff for the following:
• How to pray with patients
• How to share the gospel
• How to resolve conflict in a biblical way
• Shadowing/training of medical students

• Proactively partner with local churches, pastors/ministers, and community organizations
• Using Asset-based community development principles, identify community assets, particularly those within the churches/ministries in clinic area
• Reach out to 3-5 per quarter
• Meet with one per month
• Invite one to clinic per month
• Find opportunities for partnership

• Pastoral touch with staff
• Participate in departmental staff meetings
• Participate in groups as opportunities arise
• Possible volunteer and/or intern oversight
• Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS*

Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; BA highly preferred, MA/MDiv preferred.

Experience: At least three years of ministry experience required (including volunteer); full-time, vocational ministry experience preferred.

Mental Requirements: Requires high periods of concentration intermittently and normal attention. Generally, even once the job is learned, tasks will require normal attention to deal with recurring variables. Seeking a candidate possessing the following competencies:

• Adept at prayer, evangelism and pastoral care
• Shows basic leadership ability
• Articulates the difference between pastoral care and professional counseling
• Works well with all levels of staff, especially with providers
• Clear oral and written communication
• Able to teach, coach and train
• Willing to be trained in ministry competency, dealing with sensitive topics, and understanding common medical and behavioral health issues

License or Certification: Elder, Pastor or Minister Ordination preferred, but not required.
