JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Special Education Teacher

Purpose Statement

The position of Special Education Teacher has been established for the purposes of providing instruction and supervision to special education students and facilitate learning that will contribute to their development while complying with all regulatory obligations as set forth in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.

Reports To

Building Principal/Director of Special Education

Essential Functions

· Uphold the established Board of Education policies, regulations and administrative procedures.

· Adhere to prescribed individual education plans with fidelity.

· Plan and implement instruction using methods and materials which are most appropriate for meeting district goals and objectives.

· Evaluate students on a regular basis and provide reports and records as required.

· Create a classroom and school environment that is conducive to learning.

  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures.
  • Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner for the safety and well-being of the students.

· Communicate with colleagues, students, parents, and the community as needed to meet professional standards.

· Maintain and improve professional competence.

· Attend meetings, serve on committees, and perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the principal or designee in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Board of Education.

· Demonstrate support for the Mission, Beliefs, and Goals of the Posen-Robbins School District 143½.

Job Responsibilities

· Help students with various learning challenges to reach their full educational potential

· Prepare lesson plans, units and projects to complete learning objectives that align with the District’s core curriculum

· Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units and projects

· Create, assign and grade various student assessments, including tests, quizzes, essays and projects

· Adapt teaching methods and materials to the learning styles of students

· Use special tools and equipment to support learning

· Work with students 1:1 when extra attention or help is required

· Participate with other key personnel in student IEP meetings

· Establish and enforce rules of behavior for students in the classroom

· Have the ability to integrate technology in your daily delivery of instruction

· Communicate effectively with all stakeholders; maintain ongoing meaningful two-way family engagement

· Take an active role in your continued professional development

· Other responsibilities as required to support the District’s learning outcomes

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

· Valid Illinois Professional Education License with an LBS1 endorsement, or other legal credential required.

· Prior skills and experience as requested by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services

Terms of Employment

Salary and work year as established by the Board of Education.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Building Principal or Assigned Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,760.00 - $65,000.00 per year
