We are seeking experienced full-time Special Education Principal (K-8 Grades) to join Academic Mastery Academy for the 2022-2023 school year. A Special Education Principal holds primary responsibility for providing academic, emotional, and physical services for students who require additional support to thrive within the school’s core academic program. This individual will work closely with the school director to supervise students with Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The principal will support the staff with helping the students develop their full potential, while systematically increasing their socially appropriate behavior. We seek a principal who has the ability to support staff in curriculum content areas, a track record of providing excellent learning experiences that deepens staff understanding of multiple literacy concepts and are committed to continuously improving their practice through collaboration.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all mandated reporting and guidelines at all times.
  • Guide teachers in developing weekly lesson plans in alignment with student IEP goals.
  • Perform and submit formal assessments prior to each student’s annual review.
  • Develop, in collaboration with teachers, appropriate IEP goals based on assessment results 10 days prior to annual review.
  • Update and provide data-based quarterly progress reports and IEP benchmarks.
  • Note in lesson plans, references of informal assessment of specific students that triggered plan.
  • Guide teacher in performing activities, materials, and prompting hierarchies that relate to the IEP goals.
  • Mentor and train classroom and 1:1 paraprofessionals to anticipate those activities that they can perform, which support the lesson plan.
  • Provide monthly suggestions to the Director on areas of training that would enhance the skills of teachers and aides.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with teachers and paraprofessional staff members and submit documentation to Director.
  • Interact with the Director and clinical staff regarding clinical recommendations.
  • Observe performance of classroom staff sufficient to perform an evaluation and assist administration with annual performance evaluation.
  • Notify parents of the onset of unacceptable performance of classroom staff.
  • Communicate daily to school districts’ special education director, parents via email or phone regarding the on-going performance of students.
  • Maintain and update all required components to student’s main files.
  • Participate in at least 2 outside trainings per school year directly related to serving students with special needs, particularly those diagnosed with autism.
  • Schedule and participate in all scheduled in-house trainings throughout the school year.
  • Participate in student IEP/ Multidisciplinary Conference (MDC) meetings throughout the school year.
  • Participate in annual reviews for students throughout the school year.
  • Conduct at least 2 observations and evaluation classrooms and provide administration with documentation of each observation and evaluation throughout the school year.
  • Conduct school safety drills i.e. fire, tornado, intruder and bus evacuation.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Type 75 General Administrative and LBS1 Special Education Endorsement
  • Professional Education License-Illinois State teaching certificate
  • Ability to perform all functions necessary to obtain certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (CPI and CPR)
  • Ability to multi-task in a high stress environment
  • Ability to interact with diverse personalities
  • Must have excellent references.
  • Must have current, up-to-date clearances.
  • Must enjoy working with children.
  • Above average endurance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
