As a Resource Home Certifier, you will:
  • Have a unique opportunity to meet interesting people, learn about their stories, and see the power of resilience first-hand.
  • Recruit, identify, assess and support resource families (resource, adoptive and kinship families).
  • Help match children needing out of home placement with a resource family that can meet that individual youth’s unique needs. You will support the team working with that youth to maintain the placement with the resource family.
  • Review applications, interview applicants, and conduct home studies. During the home study process, you will navigate sensitive topics, assess the capacity of the applicant to provide care for special needs children and youth, and engage in intensive writing documentation.
  • Interact with various parties including resource parents, applicants, children, caseworkers, community partners, and sometimes the court.
  • Have an opportunity to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team. The team you will work with supports one another and is dedicated to serving children, families, and communities.

What you need to qualify
A bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a field related to human service, or;
A bachelor’s degree unrelated to Human Services and either:
  • One year of Human Services related experience, or;
  • Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency, or;
An associate degree and either:
  • Two years of Human Services related experience, or;
  • One year of Human Services related experience and related training, coursework or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.
Essential attributes
We are looking for candidates with:
  • Knowledge and skills working with foster and adoptive resources.
  • Skills interviewing and gathering data needed to assess need of individuals and families.
  • Collaboration as a team member to support resource parents, children, and youth
  • Experience supporting resource parents with accessing services available supports and fostering connections with providers
  • Skills working with community providers and community service providers
  • Skills in writing reports such as adoption home studies and investigative reports that include conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to use informed practices that are inclusive of the child and the family’s language, race, and culture.

Working conditions
  • Your work will be conducted in the office and in the community.
  • Travel with the purpose of transporting children is required. Some travel may be hours away.
  • Your hours of work may fluctuate based on service needs. Occasional compensation overtime may be required, including evening and weekend work.
  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma, and exhibit challenges in controlling their emotions.
