Job Summary:

Operates machine that slits continuous lengths of steel into strips of specified width in accordance to safety, quality standards and customer specifications by performing the following duties.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Daily and prior to use, inspects slitter and measuring devices for defective operation and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
  • Verifies gauge, width and lineal footage of processed material and attaches identifying tags prior to removing material from the production line (recoiler).
  • Observes work order as not to exceed capacity of equipment.
  • Reads work orders for specifications to determine machine set up and material requirements. Inspects material to insure it meets quality standards of customer.
  • Operates the machines main control panel and observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular uncoiling, cutting and recoiling or machine malfunction.
  • Selects and installs micarta spacers, end discs and separator disc(s) on under arm tubes according to set profile provided.
  • Coordinates and assists in the machines set up and change over.
  • Measures material dimensions by using tape measure; micrometer and calipers to determine product is being processed to customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Enters alphabetic and numeric data onto source documents and into computer following format displayed on screen.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must demonstrate ability to master all essential aspects of position given reasonable amount of instruction.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand written documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, signage, work instructions, shipping documents, packaging tags.
  • Must possess adequate writing skills required to complete production paperwork, inspection reports, etc. as required.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, verbally or otherwise, to respond to real time situations were immediate communication is required.
  • Ability to count, add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers; must have a working knowledge of common fractions and decimals.
  • Must be able to accurately read and interpret a standard tape measure.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
