Position Description:
HRS Consulting, Inc. is seeking a
Sign Language Interpreter to work in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide best value healthcare and professional consulting services to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). Qualified candidates will have experience interpreting for hearing-impaired individuals during conferences and events. A thorough understanding of the complex aspects and social issues related to Veteran healthcare needs is required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Accurately translating the subject matter being discussed for deaf or hearing-impaired individuals in a variety of situations
- Conveying all relevant points made by speakers to promote the public and private awareness of mission, goals, initiatives, and objectives to ensure complete understanding of the complex and technical aspects and social issues of Veteran healthcare needs
- Supporting training development to be delivered in various mediums including face to face, online, or hybrid formats
- Helping to disseminate information to industry, consumer advocacy groups, and Veteran Service Organizations and engaging in recruitment campaigns
- Supporting healthcare related conferences, seminars, and events planning services by translating for speakers and participants
Experience/Education Requirements:
- U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder
- Eligibility to obtain Veterans Affairs (VA) suitability approval to access agency computer systems and facilities required to start work; current VA credentials preferred
- Associate of Applied Science degree required; Studies in Sign Language Interpreting preferred
- 3+ years of related experience interpreting for hearing-impaired individuals
- Experience conveying all aspects of complex and multi-dimensional issues in a variety of settings
- Knowledge of matters pertaining to Veteran healthcare needs
- Experience supporting VA or a federal government health-related program is a plus
- Ability to clearly communicate and exchange information with co-workers, teammates, stakeholders, and other personnel, as required
- Proficiency working across the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- This job operates in a professional office environment with prolonged periods sitting at a desk, attending meetings, and using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and video teleconferencing equipment.
- This is a largely sedentary role; however, the ability to move office items such as files, laptop/computer equipment, meeting materials, and other work supplies may require carrying and lifting items up to 15 pounds at times.
- Business travel may be required.
