Position Details

The Sexual Assault Survivor Advocate will provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered comprehensive services to survivors of sexual assault at medical facilities or at other locations in the community as appropriate in Rock Island and Mercer counties in Illinois. These services will consist of but are not limited to the following: individual advocacy, case management, emotional support, support groups, safety planning, and other systems advocacy for clients and their significant others affected by sexual assault. These duties will be performed under the leadership of the Survivor Services Supervisor. The Sexual Assault Survivor Advocate will participate in the 24-hr on-call rotation; have reliable transportation, and a flexible schedule to accommodate program and survivor needs. This position is responsible for being on an on-call rotation, as well as working some nights, weekends, and holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial

  • Meets or exceeds budgeted financial expectations for the program.
  • Will seek prior approval and work with the direct supervisor for any purchases that need to be made.
  • Submit all receipts within 24 hours of purchase.
  • Provides timesheet documentation for all funding sources related to the position.

Operations

  • Ensure free, voluntary, non-discriminatory, accessible services for all clients.
  • Participates in the on-call rotation, providing 24 hour in-person crisis response to survivors as requested by law enforcement, medical professionals, and other community partners.
  • Implement effective outreach for identified underserved populations within service areas assigned.
  • Complete annual continuing education requirements to ensure certification as a Sexual Abuse Advocate with the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA).
  • Possess the ability to utilize existing resources and learning to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals/needs.
  • Sets clear expectations for self and team to achieve work objectives and overcome obstacles.
  • Provides timesheet documentation for all funding sources related to the position.
  • Inputs daily services into the data entry system by the noted deadline each week.
  • Is able to assess effectiveness of services provided and adjust service delivery as needed.
  • Understanding of the issues related to the decision-making process; ability to analyze situations fully and accurately, and reach productive decisions.
  • Utilizes feedback from various sources in order to improve the quality of services offered. Sources such as survey, volunteer, community, and team members.
  • Actively participate in program and agency problem identification and resolution.
  • Proactively support the development and attainment of program and agency program goals.
  • Follow agency policy on confidentiality.
  • Keep Supervisor informed of relevant issues.

Client/External

  • Provides the following services to survivors of sexual violence and agencies, organizations, and systems that interact with survivors of sexual violence: Awareness and outreach, inter-agency collaborations, serving on multi-disciplinary teams as needed, awareness and referrals, school outreach, systems advocacy, public awareness campaigns, and outreach materials; emergency food, clothing, and transportation assistance; immediate shelter and related supportive services; legal, medical, and economic advocacy, transportation, child care and/or respite care, and safety planning.
  • Provide targeted professional outreach, training, and technical assistance to increase identification and referral for services as well as a trauma-informed response when a survivor discloses sexual assault.
  • Maintain working knowledge of hospital procedures as they relate to the treatment of survivors of sexual assault/abuse.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Illinois legal codes as they relate to sexual assault/abuse.
  • Provide support during legal processes including assistance with victim impact statements.
  • Assist in filing court/legal documents and victim compensation claims.
  • Act as a program representative on committees that focus on victimization and service providers external to Illinois Sexual Abuse Program
  • Keep an open flexible schedule to meet the needs of the community, survivors, and the program.
  • Assess and implement necessary adaptations of current comprehensive services to meet the unique needs of the population served
  • Take initiative in problem-solving and utilizes resources such as team members and community resources to assist in addressing client/volunteer issues that arise.
  • Provide referrals to community-based victim service programs and other resources as appropriate.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services.
  • Represent the program and agency positively in all public and community contacts.
  • Provide ongoing support to survivors through face-to-face contacts, telephone calls, and other means.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Participate in, at minimum, monthly individual supervisions with a direct supervisor.
  • Creates positive, inclusive, safe, client-led, and outcome-oriented culture.
  • Serves as a public face of the Agency by interfacing with regulatory, community, and funder leadership.
  • Ensures that communication with outside parties is coordinated and effectively builds positive relationships.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • 3 years related management experience, OR equivalent education & related work experience.
  • Valid drivers' license in good standing and vehicle with appropriate auto insurance required. Must be able to pass the motor vehicle record background check.


Must have current proof of car insurance, able to pass a driving background check, and have reliable transportation.
