At the direction of the Manager IV – Operations and Administrative Services Division, Supervisor III – Board of Review or their designee, the Assessing Clerk I will perform the following duties.

Examples of Duties

  • Assists the general public in filing applications for property tax exemptions and answers basic questions regarding the property tax exemption process.
  • Process property transfers, enter new owner names, addresses, and other pertinent data into the appropriate computer programs.
  • Completes and maintains assessment rolls that show the taxpayer of record, the unique parcel identifier, the legal description, the taxable status, the property class, the current assessed, SEV, and taxable values.
  • Sort and process daily mail. Is responsible for tracking exemptions . Enters data for simple value changes, tracking and verifying that values correspond with calculations, decision rendered from the Board of Review, the City Assessor, or the Michigan Tax Tribunal.
  • The position has constant contact with the public for the purpose of providing assessment information and providing basic research assistance.
  • Review exemption applications, update owner information, and other pertinent data into the appropriate computer programs.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years in a office setting are preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • High School Diploma or GED is Preferred.
