Job Summary

As one of the key team members, this position will play the key role of creating groundbreaking concepts in advanced sequencing technology and next generation technologies for multi-omics tools. You will work closely with talented multidisciplinary team, including Optics, Hardware, Software, Image Analysis, Camera Imaging, & Firmware. You will be responsible for identifying future technology within your area and collaborate with Global teams of scientists and engineers to complete proof of concept as well as transferring proven technology to product development.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in complex advanced technology development projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary members of the team systematically addressing highest risk aspects of new technology concepts as projects progress and learnings accumulate.
  • Lead concept development of critical sub-systems of complex Genetic Analysis systems including Optics, Motion Controls, Fluidics, Signal/Image analysis, and other. Build and test sub-system prototypes and breadboards, analyze and present data to the team, facilitate troubleshooting and technical decision-making process.
  • Collaborate with biochemistry, flow cell technology, algorithms and hardware design teams to invent and develop technology components and elements of the system to underpin future sequencing and multi-omics products.
  • Apply Systems Engineering expertise to contribute to definition of product technology directions and roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with overseas Engineering and Science teams to further develop system concepts and successfully transfer to Product Development organization.
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in complex system integration and design for instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve difficult technical problems, drive complex multi-disciplinary projects to closure and operate in the environment with high level of ambiguity and changing requirements.
  • Experience in an R&D environment focused on instrument or capital equipment design. Intimate knowledge of microscopy or fluorescence detection systems. Skilled in the use of imaging optics, CCD/CMOS, lasers and other light sources, fluidics, precision motion and thermal control systems, algorithms.
  • Strong hands-on skills with integration of optical, motion and fluidics systems in a lab or manufacturing environment required.
  • Knowledge of system performance modeling techniques, data acquisition and analysis, and experience using tools such as MATLAB, LabView, ImageJ, JMP, Python, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to efficiently handle multiple projects and priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Other requirements

  • Travel at 5-10% level.

Education

  • MS/PhD in an Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with life science systems, consumable micro-fluidics devices, robotic subsystems, troubleshooting and optimization of system level performance including interface with bio-chemistry and surface chemistry desired.
  • Experience in wafer inspection or metrology. Understanding of semiconductors manufacturing process including thin film deposition and lithography.
  • Familiarity with developing of IP, filing patents, MBSE and Bioinformatics.
  • Demonstrated ability working in global matrixed environment.

The base salary range for this position is $132,000 to $147,000 . This position will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. The actual compensation paid to any individual for this position may vary depending on factors such as experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. Actual compensation will be confirmed in writing at the time of offer.
