The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior Center of Excellence (CoE) Specialist has a key role in the Project Management Office (PMO) focused on establishing, documenting, communicating, training, and monitoring WWP’s project management best practices. This person will work closely with the PMO Director, Project Managers, and key organizational stakeholders to develop materials and educate relevant WWP team members as to the PMO’s processes, procedures, tools, and templates. The CoE Specialist represents a pivotal support role for the PMO, ensuring Project Managers are educated, efficient, and successful in fulfilling their project management responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Define, refine, and document WWP Enterprise-wide project delivery process, covering all relevant phases of a project, in conjunction with PMO Director and PMs.
  • Create a project delivery framework that represents the latest teachings from the Project Management Institute (PMI) and incorporates the latest PMBOK learnings into the PMO (where applicable).
  • Coordinate and streamline work, processes, and communications across WWP.
  • Design and maintain training materials, and deliver training for Project Managers, senior leaders, and program owners.
  • Blend a discipline of project delivery into a maturing WWP culture that embraces agility and creativity.
  • Develop a framework to support the PMO and stakeholders when meaningful changes occur during project execution.
  • Periodically shadow Program Managers and Project Managers to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • In conjunction with the PMO Director, evaluate, select, and rollout tools (PMIS, etc.) and templates to drive consistency and improve efficiency.
  • Develop and provide reports to PMO leaders regarding KPIs focused on auditing PMO processes.
  • Manage standard project and program reporting and the evolution of same.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, e.g., project charters, project plans, communications plans, requests for proposals, process maps, use cases, backlogs, and business requirements.
  • Listen and learn from the PMO and internal teams; turn insights into actions that drive a better delivery experience.
  • Work closely with the Procurement team to ensure our vendor management process is efficient and effective.
  • Track and report on project governance metrics - such as percent of projects that followed required process steps, or used centrally managed status report templates, etc.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Strong project management skills, including use of various methodologies, e.g., Waterfall, Agile/Scrum.
  • Ability to succinctly document new processes and procedures, and effectively train team members on same.
  • Ability to solicit feedback and turn project challenges into opportunities and ultimately delivery best practices.
  • Knowledge of PMI PMBOK seventh edition and the latest improvements / changes to project delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply PMI best practices knowledge, identify process gaps / improvements for WWP’s PMO.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability in the understanding of Information Technology concepts, applications, and systems.
  • Ability to flex according to the situation, and to develop and implement plans for adjusting tools, methodologies, schedule, resources, etc. as necessary.

EXPERIENCE
Requirements
  • Five years of experience managing multiple, simultaneous enterprise-wide projects.
  • Two years of experience as part of a PMO developing best practices, rolling out new processes, and measuring the improvements from those changes.
Preferences
  • Two years of experience managing a program or portfolio of projects.
  • Three years of experience using agile/scrum technology.
  • Two years of experience in business analysis.
EDUCATION
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in project management, communications, computer science, information technology, or related field. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, or experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURE
Requirements
  • Project management certification or pursuing project management certification, e.g., Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).
Preferences
  • PMI PMP certification from 2021 focused on the PMBOKv7.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
