The Role

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Sr. Packaging Engineer on our Logistics team to design and develop packaging solutions for the Xos business enterprise. This role will be essential for the Xos organization in driving technical execution of packaging projects across Xos Trucks and Energy platforms. This is a very unique opportunity to engage with all facets of Xos product development from technology and design, component delivery to Xos facilities and final delivery of Xos products to customers. This role will work with cross-functional teams across all departments to anticipate and forecast the needs of the business to design, develop, source and make purchase decisions for packaging solutions based on demand.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all engineered packaging projects for Xos Trucks and Xos Energy products.
  • Interface with the Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Supply Chain organizations to gather and develop packaging requirements.
  • Partner with Global Supply Management and Logistics to drive projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without sacrificing part quality or manufacturability.
  • Fix new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials, processes and provides creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Design and engineer packaging for automotive parts.
  • Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage and unique shipping racks – domestic and international.
  • Coordinate development of retailer packaging and optimal transportation packaging protection for air, trucks, rail, and ocean containers.
  • Conduct packaging analysis and testing to ensure packaging effectiveness.
  • Monitor KPIs and work with Logistics to develop world-class packaging standards.
  • Drive expendable to returnable projects and participate in sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist in supplier selection and supplier management for packaging tooling, expendable containers and returnable racks or dunnage.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Supply Chain required (Master's degree is a plus).
  • Minimum 5+ years of packaging development and engineering experience required.
  • Experience with Catia 3DX strongly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self sufficient, self directed.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Packaging materials, products, suppliers and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to thrive in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly and prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence and data-driven decision making
  • Works well on projects on their own as well as with a team, able to clearly communicate ideas
  • Global Travel as needed – 20%
