SUMMARY: The Senior Operations Manager role plans, directs and coordinates activities of the Pearsall, Texas testing facility to ensure goals, objectives and projects are accomplished as well as being accountable for the customer interface on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, this role is also responsible for overseeing scheduling, invoicing, equipment, and support personnel for test programs (drivers/techs/mechanics) for the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Hires, develops and coordinates all track support personnel.
  • Maintains current safety, quality, training programs and develops new programs when needed.
  • Manages the revenue and profit for the testing related aspects of the proving grounds and ensures all test revenue and profit targets are achieved.
  • Meets clients’ quality, service and delivery expectations.
  • Has experience in vehicle technologies, data acquisition, tire or general full vehicle testing methods.
  • Enforces company policies and procedures. Keeps accurate records for all employees. Maintains good relations with contract labor services.
  • Requires knowledge of coordinating and working with vendors on instrumentation setup, data collection and configuration.
  • Works with the Principal Engineer with respect to engineering reporting documents.
  • Has the ability to read engineering drawings and test procedures.
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises the activities of assigned projects to ensure that the aims, goals, or objectives specified for the projects are accomplished in accordance with prescribed priorities, time restrictions, and budget limitations.
  • Initiates and maintains good working relations with all local business and authorities.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relations with Smithers’ clients.
  • Keeps sales and marketing departments advised of new, potential clients that might have visited the test facility.
  • Maintains contact with past, current, and potential clients.
  • Provides technical assistance and support to clients, Smithers’ personnel, and contract labor, when required.
  • Schedules work hours for track support personnel.
  • Schedules incoming testing.
  • Issues monthly billing information, including rebillables of materials purchased for specific clients.
  • Follows and develops cost controls for supplies and labor.
  • Follows and develops preventative maintenance procedures for all support equipment.
  • Follows and develops calibration procedures for all measurement equipment.
  • Follows and develops safe working practices for all employees. Keeps updated with Worker’s Compensation and OSHA requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises all track support personnel.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
  • Background in proving grounds, vehicle and tire testing is a plus
  • Background in the tire and automotive industries, RO water and well systems
