Summary:

Reporting to the Fleet Maintenance Manager, the experienced Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining all diesel equipment operations by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; and filling out work orders and service sheet records.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts

• Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; performing service repairs, installing component and part upgrades; completing winterization procedures
• Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering
• Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting brakes and clutches, possible engine valve adjustments. Also troubleshoot breakdowns and perform road calls
• Inspecting all units for compliance with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and emission control standards
• Maintains vehicle records by documenting all services, parts used and repairs performed.
• Keeps shop equipment clean and in good operating condition by following operating instructions
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications
• Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

Skills and Qualifications:

• Candidate must possess technical understanding, attention to detail, dependability, thoroughness, verbal and written communication skills

Job Knowledge:

• Preferred minimum three years full-time experience as Class A or Class B Mechanic. Must have own tools. Experience in tanker equipment a plus

License Requirements:

• New York State Driver License ("CDL") preferred to be maintained for the duration of employment

Other Requirements:

• Ability to obtain a TWIC Card

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
