About the Role
The Senior Learning and Development Specialist is responsible for building and sustaining a learning culture at the BSO by defining and developing learning solutions to drive learning impact. The Senior Learning and Development Specialist delivers competency-focused and interactive learning programs and professional development experiences, thoughtfully designed to help the BSO employee community excel at serve at every stage of their career at the institution.
This position requires demonstrated experience in managing learning and development programs that emphasize a holistic approach to development that is not just about education, but also self-awareness, exposure to the lived experiences of others, and connections to people.
Required Education and Experience

The successful candidate will possess the ability to build strong relationships, understand stakeholder needs, and develop recommendations to drive personal and professional development for BSO staff. The ideal candidate will be successful at the BSO by achieving the following:
  • Work with VP of Talent and Equity and HR Director to define and execute the BSO’s learning and development strategies to support the institution’s performance excellence and service culture.
  • Ensure training deliveries position learners to quickly apply knowledge and tools provided.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop or purchase learning materials.
  • Build relationships with BSO leaders and other stakeholders to understand training needs.
  • Monitor quality and impact of trainings to ensure return on institutional investment in learning.
  • Recommend or develop processes and practices within the learning and development function.
Job Responsibilities
Identify training and learning gaps across the BSO
  • Collaborate across the BSO to identify strategic and tactical goals for each training engagement.
  • Identify critical knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to support learning objectives.
  • Develop an instructional strategy for different training or learning solutions based upon established learning objectives, learner needs and characteristics.
  • Ensure the experiences are digestible to the learning audience(s).
Design trainings and learning content
  • Facilitates working sessions to develop and document the end-to-end learning experience solution for each targeted population.
  • Evaluate existing curricula for alignment, effectiveness, and instructional soundness.
  • Research and evaluate learning concepts and techniques to purchase for the institution.
  • Creates a learning culture through informal lunch and learns, coffee connects, and panels.
  • Creates peer-learning spaces through fail fails, peer assists, and knowledge exchange networks.
Deliver training and learning programs
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to identify solutions that achieve shared results.
  • Manage program roll outs by overseeing the production of learning solutions with internal and external resources.
  • Deliver trainings specific to equity, diversity, and inclusion on a consistent basis.
Evaluate and report out
  • Use the Kirkpatrick levels to build out an evaluation framework for the BSO.
  • Provide monthly report out on number of trainings offered and who attends them.
Communicates learning opportunities
  • Use a regular/consistent cadence to alert community to learning and training opportunities.
  • Contribute to bi-monthly newsletter to the community.
Experience and Credentials
  • Ten (10) years of progressive responsibility in creating learning and development modalities.
  • Master’s degree in curriculum design, HR management, organizational development, and/or equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Strong knowledge of learning and development methodologies; formal design and development approaches, adult learning best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of virtual, asynchronous, self-paced, and in-person training technologies used to deploy, maintain, and monitor learning.
  • In-depth knowledge of training techniques/practices to enhance skills and improve performance.
  • Exceptional presentation, facilitation, consensus-building, and people skills.
  • Strong analytic skills to translate concepts into usable information relayed in a clear fashion.
  • Advanced ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Preference given to Camtasia and Storyline development experience.

  • Perform a wide range of strategic and tactical responsibilities requiring advanced knowledge of building a learning environment and sustaining a training practice.
  • Work in a collaborative setting with a strong senior leadership team.
  • Exercise discretion working with extremely sensitive and confidential data of major importance where utmost integrity is required.
  • Prioritize workflow and apply resources to maximize HR and organizational efficiency.
  • Use a high degree of diplomacy and ability to deal with and influence persons in all types of positions.
  • Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of internal clients to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that minimize risk and enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
